What’s the number one question asked about black skin?

Can you guess the answer to this question?  Some of you have asked what’s the best product for African American Skin?  Others have asked what kind of masque should you use for your skin?  And yet others have asked about the cleanser for your skin?

The number one question asked is two fold, how do I get rid of dark spots and even out my skin tone?

Dark Spots and Uneven Skin Tones

These are two of the culprits that haunt black women when it comes to caring for their skin.  That beautiful gift known as melanin is behind a lot of the trauma that you experience with dark spots and uneven skin tones.

This is only because the melanin is trying to protect you when the brain registers a cut, scrap or bruise on your skin.

But dark spots and uneven skin tones can occur from too much sun exposure.  Go figure … too much sun exposure.

But I’m a black women and the sun should be my friend!  This is what I’ve heard over and over again.  And the sun is your friend but so many factors come into play when you are out in the sun.

Here are a few of them:

  • What time of day are you enjoying the beautiful rays of the sun?
  • Did you know that the morning sun before 10 AM and evening after 3 PM, is the best sun for you to expose your skin too?
  • Did you know that certain medications can cause your skin to experience discoloration?
  • Did you know that certain ingredients found in products are photosensitive and should not be worn when you’re out in the sun?

All right, that takes care of the sun’s part in challenging your skin.  What about the things that you contribute, like:

  • Popping bumps and blackheads
  • Picking chin hairs
  • Using the wrong products for your skin type.  Want an example?  How about an alcohol-based product on dry skin.  Or better yet, a clay masque on dry skin.  Yes clay masque.   Clay masques pull extra oil from your skin.  That’s “extra” oil, dry skin doesn’t have extra oil.
  • Nature plays its role with hormonal changes.  From puberty to menopause, inflamed bumps, sometimes with puss and chin hairs.  Your skin will be challenged based on how balanced your hormones are within your body.  Treat them wrong and you will experience dark spots and skin discoloration

So, your question is how do I get rid of dark spots and uneven skin tone?

Prevention is the best path.  The following points can help you minimize getting dark spots and uneven skin tones.

  • Keep your face cleansed, toned and moisturized.
  • Exfoliate twice a week with a gentle product- jojoba wax beads are great in a cream base.
  • Don’t use products that are heavy with alcohol.  They will dry your skin out and cause discoloration
  • Don’t over scrub your face.  This process can cause scratches, bruises and uneven skin tones from discoloration.
  • Nutrition and water play an important role in the appearance of your complexion.  Eating the best foods you can afford feeds you internally, thereby nourishing your cells, blood, bones, hair and skin.
  • Don’t pop pimples and squeeze blackheads.  Guaranteed to have dark spots and/or uneven skin tones.

Removing Dark Spots and Uneven Skin Tones, Naturally!

There are natural creams and serums that will assist you in removing dark spots and uneven skin tones.

If you want to go this route, look for ingredients that have, licorice, bearberry/arbutin, kojic acid, lemon and papaya.  These are just a few of the ingredients that will naturally lighten your skin that has darkened or has a dark spot.

The key is patience.  It will not happen overnight.  Enjoy your journey to naturally beautiful, flawless black skin.
