The phrase ‘beauty comes from within’ is certainly true, whether figuratively or literally and regardless of your skin tone. A healthy lifestyle is crucial as part of a great black skin care regimen. This includes maintaining a healthy diet that is rich in foods that are good for your skin such as fruits and vegetables with antioxidants that help keep your skin healthy.

Staying away from certain foods is also important if you want good-looking skin. Limit your intake of fatty foods and highly-processed foods. Avoid fried foods as much as you can and go instead with baked or broiled dishes.

The usual health tip of drinking plenty of water also applies to proper black skin care.  Yes, your skin requires adequate amounts of water to prevent dryness.

The importance of regular exercise cannot be stressed enough either,  if your want to  achieve healthy glowing black skin. By working out regularly, you will improve your blood circulation and the appearance of your skin. It can be very difficult to stick to a regular exercise routine so the key is to choose an activity that you will enjoy. It can be as simple as walking or jogging or any other sport you like.

In addition to having healthy eating habits and lifestyle, there are many black skin care products that can help you get that soft beautiful black skin. At the top of the list are moisturizers, which are essential to keeping your skin well-hydrated. Dark skin tends to have an ashy appearance when it’s dry so a good moisturizer is definitely a must-have for African-American women.

Apply a moisturizing lotion or cream right after your shower or bath to lock in the moisture on still damp skin. Another general rule when it comes to moisturizers is to use a separate product for your face. What’s even more important to remember is that skin type varies.

Yours can be dry, oily or both so make sure you use a moisturizer – or any skin care product, for that matter – that suits your skin type.

Don’t forget to cleanse your face in the morning and before you go to bed. If you have oily skin, don’t fall for the hype of always using a soap to cleanse your face.

Soap can be very drying to your skin, so avoid using soapy face wash or cleansers, especially if you already have dry skin.  Cream or mild gel cleansers (as in aloe vera gel) are great for removing oil build up from your face.

For both facial and body moisturizers, you should choose products with sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. It’s a misconception that dark skin, although naturally protected from the sun, doesn’t need a sunscreen.

Eating healthy, regular exercise and daily use of the right products for your skin – this is what it takes to get beautiful skin. Yes, black skin care does require some effort but you’ll thank yourself for it in the end.

So, be good to yourself and your skin and you’ll be enjoying the benefits of luxurious, radiant, healthy looking skin, in no time.
