Shea Butter and HerbsBody care products are giving skin care products a run for their money. The demand for anti-aging products has been the main focus in skin care whether it’s been for Black skin or Caucasian skin. Anti-aging has been the big focus in skin care. But what about that part of you from your neck down.

When you’re looking at and focusing on your skin, a large number of you recognize the need for the holistic approach, ahead to toe approach in caring for your skin.

What do you look for when you’re searching for a product that’s going to assist you in taking care of yourself from head to toe?

First, you’re looking at the natural wear, tear and stress that attacks your skin. Gravity in general steps in and begins to pull and tug on the natural evolution of your skin. Stress from the elements like the sun or pollution take a toll on your skin, loss of that plumpness, hyper-pigmentation and wrinkles take a toll on your skin as well. So how do you work through these challenges? You find products and ingredients that are going to address them.

In the past, body care products for the most part, targeted dryness and flakiness of your skin. But today when you look at the products and their ingredients, they are becoming more focused on formulas that have ingredients that will actually repair and firm your skin as well as add smoothness to your skin. And this is all talking about the body.

It’s extremely important to select ingredients that have been shown to penetrate and deliver proper nutrients to your skin and  products that can help you promote the production of collagen or diminish irregularities on your skin.  These ingredients are responsible for diminishing cellulite and evening out skin discoloration and stretch marks.  You want to find ingredients that are going to address these challenges and address them from a natural stand point.

What Is The Best Known Ingredient For Addressing Challenges To Black Skin?

One of the best known and most well used ingredients is Shea butter. It’s been proven that Shea butter is an excellent moisturizer for your skin. It can act as an antioxidant, a natural sunscreen and hydrate and repair your skin, improve elasticity and wrinkles and promote skin health.

Often you’ll find Shea butter products that have had essential oils added to them. For tightening and toning you might see something that contains lemon verbena as one of its ingredients. You might also see a soluble form of vitamin C and also look at vitamin B3 which improves dark spots and sun damage.

Although it’s not necessarily appropriate for facials because of its rich consistency, Shea butter is ideal for moisturizing the skin on your body. When it comes to body care products, hydration is one of the key components to look for, how well does it moisturize your skin, how well does it nourish your skin. Also, when you look at the details of the product, you want to look at how well it glides across your skin and how much is necessary for you to use the get the coverage that you want for your skin.

When you look at those components of a good skin care product, that’s one side of it. You also want to look at it to see if that particular body product is being used and targeted to certain areas of your body. For instance, what’s known as the rough zones (elbows, knees, hands). Using a product for the rough zones, you want it to have an ingredient that incorporates more of an emollient within the ingredients which is going to give you that slip. It’s also going to nourish, nurture and hydrate your skin at the same time. These areas, believe it or not, can show age in your skin, especially your hands. So if you’ve got a good lotion or butter that contains Shea butter (preferably a pump for dish pan hands), you should always have it on hand to moisturize your hands.

When you’re digging your hands into a product, you’re putting moisture back into that product that you may not perceive is there. That moisture can change the composition, break it down and cause bacteria to settle. That moisture can come from washing your hands if you don’t fully dry them. Butters are great for overall use like body and massage. They give you that slip application and you’ve got a container there after you step out of the shower.

When you add butter getting out of the shower, you’re locking in the moisture to your skin for more soft, smooth and radiant skin. The same applies to oils like olive, jojoba, avocado. Any oil blend is great for your body, especially with essential oils like Rose and Sandalwood and Jasmin. From your feet up, these are great for body treatments in a carrier base.

Your body is just as important as your face so don’t skimp. It needs and desires the same attention as your face. The body oils and butters are a great component for your body as well as the exfoliants. So when you’re looking for products that are going to add a certain radiance to your skin, look for products that contain Shea butter, jojoba, olive, grape-seed, avocado and essential oils to enhance the aroma of the products. They will also provide nourishing components when added to the base of any skin care product.

That’s it for this week … As always ..
