Dark circles and puffiness under eyesDark circles underneath your eyes can ruin an otherwise beautiful complexion, and hiding your face isn’t an option.

It’s something that everyone sees and we always want it to look the best it can.

No matter how clear and toned your skin may be, these circles are easy to see and are frustrating to deal with.

After spending so much time and effort keeping your skin in good condition, it’s disappointing to let discoloration take away from it.

Lovely eyes contribute to a much more youthful appearance. On the other hand, darkness under the eyes can age your face by years.

The skin is the body’s largest organ and it contains areas that are more sensitive than others. Your eyes are a perfect example of this because the skin beneath them is not very thick. Its delicacy makes the skin much more translucent, so any issues that arise will be far more noticeable.

What causes puffiness under the eyes and dark circles?

Dark and puffy under eye skin is usually synonymous with one another and can be caused by many things. It may be caused by medical issues or it can be a genetic trait as African American skin is more also prone to hyperpigmentation (the darkening of areas of the skin caused by too much melanin being produced in the body).

Weather and aging can also be major factors. The rays of the sun cause considerable damage to the under eye area. It’s another element that is hard to avoid because it’s everywhere. In most places, the sun comes out during all seasons, and it doesn’t have to be blazing hot for it to affect our skin. Age is a factor, but not in all cases. There are young children that also share this trait because of their genes.

The way the blood flows to the eye area can cause the darkness. This prompts many people to change their sleeping habits and sleep on their backs to promote better blood circulation. Small habits that we don’t think much about can be to blame, as well. Rubbing our eyes excessively if they are irritated can negatively affect the already fragile skin and cause even more discoloring.

As you can see, it’s hard to narrow the cause down to a specific source. It could be one thing or a variety of things combined.

So, what is the best way to treat dark circles?

This is a popular question of many worldwide. Search online for the solution and you are likely to be overwhelmed by the vast amount of conflicting information and home remedies. Separating the truth from the myths is often found through a long process filled with trials and error that could put the delicate skin through more stress.

Sunscreens – As surprising as it may be, the proper sunscreen can help to prevent even more darkness. When applying sunscreen, the under eye area is often overlooked. Many people are unaware of the benefits, and the need for sunscreen that will provide protection around the eyes isn’t often mentioned with skin care products that are advertised to the general public.

Lifestyle Changes – Some of the ways to combat discolored under eye skin can include lifestyle changes. Smoking causes stress to the face and the body and smokers tend to notice overall skin improvement after quitting.

Personal dieting habits should also be observed. Not eating the right foods shows on our faces and with the proper nutrients, hyperpigmentation and blemishes can be halted and begin to fade. Our water intake is also very important.

Drinking enough water keeps our skin hydrated and helps our blood to better circulate. As mentioned earlier, better circulation can lead to more even skin under the eyes.

Sleep more? -One common myth is that sleeping more is a cure-all. While sleeping more can have health benefits, too much sleep can actually be harmful. If you are genetically predisposed to dark circles, the extra sleep usually doesn’t make much of a difference.

Makeup and Eye Creams – Today, it’s not uncommon to see people visiting medical professionals and cosmetic surgeons because they are dissatisfied with dark circles and puffiness under the eyes. They want the skin to be tighter, more even, and smooth. But, it doesn’t have to come to surgery and cosmetic procedures that are uncomfortable and pricey.

Makeup continues to be the cure for many, but it that truly a solution? Some makeup boasts the ability to improve skin under the eyes, but for the most part, it only disguises the problem.

It saves time and hassle by addressing the root of the problem and doing what is necessary to treat it. This may mean having your health reviewed by a doctor for some. For others, it can simply be a matter of finding the right topical ingredients and picking up better habits. Finding the right product will provide the ingredients you need as a practical solution with results you’ll love.

Over time, you’ll be able to enjoy drawing attention to your gorgeous eyes for all the right reasons.
