Looking for the right natural black skin care products is like looking for the right man.  You’re going to make a few mistakes before you discover what’s best for you.  However, if you look in the right places, and ask the right questions, you’ll find products (and the right man) that give you a glowing, healthy complexion.

Where to Begin

You can do some research on the Internet, but do it carefully.  There are great companies found on line that offer natural black skin care products. The key is to make sure they are actually companies that understand your skin and not just a company wanting to make a buck off your skin challenges.

Magazines that speak to “You” are good sources of information, because they usually show several products in an article, rather than endorsing one.  The products range from drugstore to department store, and you can pick whatever suits your budget.  You might get some ideas about what product will even your skin tone, or brighten your complexion.

Researching moisturizers, acne products, or color correcting lotions can give you some idea of what the price range will be.  You may be able to find where it’s on sale, or even who gives you the highest quality at a reasonable price.

Is There Truth in Advertising?

Every skin care ad is going to promise you everything:  that you will have radiant, even skin tone.  The packaging, magazine, or Internet ads are all designed to attract you, draw you in so you spend your money.  So, how do you resist their sales pitch, and find what works for you?

Read the reviews on a product you might be interested in buying. Keep an open mind when reading, and look for common topics:  either several people mention ‘made my skin look dull’ or ‘made such a great difference after one month.

Ask Your Friends

They’re your friends, and would be only too willing to help you.  But make sure their skin looks like you’d want your skin to look. Somebody must have tried a product that they loved, that really worked well, and would tell you about it when you ask.

So, ask already—what are you waiting for?  If you will read articles written by total strangers, and take their advice on skincare, why not take the advice from a close friend or co-worker?

Time to Go Shopping

If you have the time, energy and money, why not go to your local department store?  Many African American skin problems—ashy skin, uneven tone—are caused by dry skin.

Go to the cosmetics counter, and try a sample of the moisturizer or product on your inner wrist—to see if it causes any irritation.  You’re simply checking for irritation levels here because the skin on your face is completely different.

Suppose you don’t care for the big department store—many drug store chains have good return policies on skin care products or cosmetics.  If you don’t like a product, you may be able to return it for a credit or refund, just check on the store’s policy before buying.

Look for natural black skin care companies on line that offer sample kits.  This will allow you to try a product before you scale up to full sizes.  You’ll also know what works best for you.

A Word to the Wise

Do your homework, on the Internet and with your friends.  Read articles, and ask friends and coworkers for suggestions.  There’s plenty of information about African American skin care—you just have to know where to look for it.
