I was in the local pharmacy looking in the different isles. I’m always searching to see what’s been put on the shelves lately that lends itself to black skin care. I’ve seen everything from make up that makes black skin look gray in color (but you don’t know this until you purchase it) to lip sticks that smell like plastic.
On this particular walk down the isle, I came upon the sunscreen isle and what do you think I saw? I saw sunscreens with SPF’s of 75 – 100. As African Americans we typically come with a built in ( you’re born with) SPF of 13-15. This means that we can stay in the sun 13 to 15 times longer without getting burned.
In light of the pollution and other toxins floating around in our atmosphere, that has changed. That’s why sunscreens/sunblocks of SPF 30, are now being recommended as one of the black skin care products to be used on your skin.
With the production of SPF’s in the 75-100 range this simply lets us know that there are some people that really have challenges with the sun. In the scheme of things, You Do Not!! So take care of your gift of beautiful black skin and choose a line of products that are specifically formulated for you.
