Black Woman in Holiday StyleDoes your style book say Style for Grownups?  It’s that time of the year when you’re thinking how can I have fun, be festive and look great at the same time.

Grownup Style, Are You Ready?

Well I’d suggest that you step away from the reindeer sweater, add a hint of sparkle, a floral print or a soft and feminine pastel.

Pewter goes with ‘ almost’ everything.  Pewter sling backs will have you stepping in high style.  They’ll definitely at spice to black and navy blue but how about a vintage pair of sea foam green stove pipe pants?  Add an embellished light weight wool sweater and that will take care of one outfit for the holiday season.

Wake up black with edgy details

Instead of pumps, try a pair of glitter and satin shoe booties.  Add a pair of slim pants and a fringe and flirty tank top and here is outfit number 2 for the holiday season.

Want a bit more sparkle?  How about a sequined skirt with a shimmering sheer shirt?   Add a camisole under it for modesty sake.  Top the look off with a pair of satin and feather pumps.  Leave your big bulky tote bag and find pleasure in something small for a change … a crystal and satin clutch bag.

Looking For Bold Color

We’re talking grown up, not girly, so choosing classic shapes will be key.  A plum stove pipe lace pant giving the appearance of being brocade in texture will add dimension to your holiday look. A vivid pop of color in a sassy, sexy fabric pump … you’re coming into focus.

Mixing metals and crystals in your accessories … your necklace, earrings … will give you bold color and bring light to your face.

Oops … where’s the bold red color that’s famous during the holiday season?  It’s found in your lipsticks under the mistletoe or a red cashmere sweater topping leather pants or jeans  and ever so lovely in a pair of red suede pumps.

Get Your Holiday Shine on with Gold and Its Many Textures

How about a cool, bad-ass leather cuff with gold trim?  That should wake you up!  Wear it with a crisp white shirt and gold brocade pants.

What’s holiday cheer without a pair of black leather pants topped with a shimmering gold top and finished with a pair of chic velvet and gold sandals?

I think you can take over from here.  You’ve got enough wardrobe pieces and ideas to mix and match into the New Year.  Have fun, experiment and try a look you’ve never worn before.

For some of you it’s time to break out of a rut.  For others of you, it might be a good time to real you in.
