Natural Black Skin CareWhat is real natural and true beauty?  When you think natural in the world of beauty, it’s often perceived as one with no makeup or hair with no chemicals. It also conjures the thought of healthy foods, no preservatives, no chemical additives and a product that will be great for your hair and skin.

All of these thought patterns are true because in the world of beauty, to take a wholistic approach – a whole body approach – to how you care for yourself is no longer a trend. It’s become a lifestyle. You and your beautiful black skin, you will no longer expose yourself to chemicals or synthetic ingredients.

You my dark skinned beauty have been the pivotal force behind naturally beautiful skin, you just didn’t know it. Think about it, you really don’t need makeup, your skin is naturally flawless. Smooth to the touch as a baby’s bottom and you certainly don’t show signs of aging until you’re well into your mature years. That is unless you’re following the path of folk that don’t look like you and really need help with their skin because it ages so much faster and looks so much older at a young age. All you really need is a good skin care regimen.

When you follow the habits of others, you’ll need to find your way back to the natural in you. This means you’ll look for products and foods that will heal, nourish, balance and improve your skin from its cellular level. How do you do such a thing? You go to the source! Flowers, plants and the food you eat will be the path you take to naturally beautiful skin.

Natural Skin Care Ingredients

Plant oils offer great healing benefits to your skin. – One of the challenges I’m seeing when caring for African American Skin is adult acne. Plant oils such as organ oil and marula oil has been shown to work wonders for acne prone skin. While it might seem counterintuitive to put oil on acneic skin, it’s a much more gentle approach and they won’t strip your skin of its natural oils. These oils have also been known to soothe and rebalance your skin.

Essential Oils – Is your perfume giving you a headache? The alternative is a beautifully crafted botanical perfume made with essential oils that have been hydro or steam distilled for a pure scent. Don’t limit your use of essential oils to a natural perfume. They’ve always been a part of the natural skin care world. Your ancestors used essential oils to create scented body oils, creams and salves.

Shea, Cocoa and Mango butters – Some of the best in skin moisturizing creams are derived from the nuts of the trees. These three butters are found in creams and butters for your face, hair and body.

The Foods You Eat – The main ingredients for your internal self. Your food intake plays a major roll in the beauty of your skin and hair. Leafy greens – spinach, kale, collards and broccoli – feed your blood with chlorophyll and boost your immune system. Whole grains, such as quinoa, act as the perfect carbohydrate substitute. Instead of pasta and noodles, allow quinoa to replace them and offer an entirely different palate to your tongue.

That being said …

Of course this is only a small snippet for you and your beautiful self to consider when taking care of your skin and hair.  Use the best ingredients and eat the best  foods, preferably organic when caring yourself.  You’ll be so glad you did!

That’s it for this week.  As always …
