essential oil for toothacheIt’s been a long, long, long time since I had a toothache. I woke up with this throbbing of my tooth. It started off like a little nag and progressed into something that took the pain up the side of my nose into my eye. I thought, this must be real serious.

I haven’t had a cold since 2007, not even a sniffle, I’m thinking I must be pretty healthy. My green drinks, raw and steamed foods must be paying off. The pain coming from my tooth, told me something completely different.

Three Essential Oils Brought Relief

Since I’m an alternative healing person, I don’t go to the doctor unless I absolutely have to, so I strolled on over to my pantry where I keep my essential oils. My first choice was Clove.

Clove bud essential oil is known for its tried and true ability to relieve a toothache. Typically you’d add a drop or two to a cotton swab, apply it to your gums and it will give you relief from the pain. Sometimes Clove will numb to the point of you not being able to feel your gums. I find that using a Q tip works better.

I didn’t want to take any chances so I added two other oils to the clove oil. Peppermint and Tea Tree.

Peppermint essential oil is antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antiviral and is a known essential oil in the aid of toothaches. It would assist in keeping swelling down and killing germs

Tea Tree essential oil, often called by it’s botanical name, Melaleuca is also anti-inflammatory, anti-viral as well as an antiseptic. Tea tree is also anti-infectious.

I ended up blending all three of these oils together into a 4 oz spray mist bottle – 3 drops of Clove, 2 drops of Peppermint and 2 drops of Tea Tree. I then filled the bottle with alkaline water and put the cap on it.

Because I added water to the oils, I had to shake it up to get it blended. We always hear that oil and water don’t mix. While this is true most of the time, it worked for me. I immediately sprayed the tooth that was throbbing as well as the roof of my mouth. I thought this would help in minimizing the pain along the side of my nose. I used any fluid that developed from the mist inside my mouth as a mouth rinse, so to speak. After about an hour, I repeated the same procedure, however, this time I sprayed the out side of my nose. This was when I felt immediate relief.

I nurtured my tooth and my mouth the rest of the day and when I woke up the next day, I didn’t have any pain. As a matter of fact the pain was gone after about an hour. I was just psychologically waiting for it to return. Sometimes you think a thing is too good to be true.

My Results …

This is a blend and potion that worked for me. Just as when you take medicine, the doctors are trying out different combinations to see what works. Your job is to know your body and what you can handle.

I shared the experience with you because we often find that a remedy we’re looking for in right inside our pantry or cabinet. Should you go to the doctor when you have a toothache. By all means. A toothache is not always something that can be handled without seeing a dentist.

As an extra precaution, since the pain shot up my face into my eye, I did see my dentist, x-rays showed nothing. Go figure!

That’s it for this week,
