Summer Scents for African American SkinWinter is long gone, and at this point so is Spring. So what we’re looking for at this time of year are scents or fragrances or perfume that will actually give us a nice soft aroma without overwhelming the pallet. When you look at scents, you typically begin to adapt your scent wardrobe based on season and the temperatures. After all, it’s the temperatures of your body and the weather that often dictate the way a scent is worn or perceived.

When it’s cold outside it makes evaporation difficult while heat will intensify a fragrance. So for Winter scents, you wear heavier type of fragrances like sandalwood, patchouli, something that’s based along that genre when it comes to perfumes or perfume blends. But as we say goodbye to Winter and Spring, we’re looking to bring in light, somewhat barely there scents to go along with the lighter weight fabrics as well.

When you’re choosing a scent for Summer, you want to look for natural scents and personal preferences will play an important role as far as the scents are concerned. You want something that is very light, so you want to think of blossoms and greens, light and crisp fragrances that would pretty much match the look and feel of a sun dress or basic white shirt and a pair of jeans. You can never go wrong with floral or citrus, so you’ll look for blends that have Jasmine and orange, grapefruit and mint.

If you can’t find part of those with a somewhat heavily oriental and woodsy scent, you want to make sure that it at least has top notes which is the first smell of any given perfume scent. You want to make sure that it has a fresh and clean type of aroma to it. Some women can’t let go of signature scents and think of perfumes as clothing, which is a nice way to choose your perfume. However, the key is to make sure that your scents go well with the seasons.

As I said before, heavier scents in the summertime will be overwhelming in terms of how it radiates and throws from your body. When you mix heavy scents or heavy smelling perfumes with heat, you often get an aroma/body odor that doesn’t always come across as being very pleasant to the nose.

Feel like getting creative?

Now if you don’t want to purchase scents you can always make your own. The best option would be for you to choose essential oils that you can use to make your natural perfumes and blend them with carrier oils so that you can have just the right aroma emitting from your body.

If you know anything about essential oils you’ll know that they smell cleaner than commercial fragrances. So this is a perfect choice for blending summer scents and that cleaner smell is also what you’re experiencing by not having a synthetics added into the fragrance mix as well as unnatural fillers or additives. When you’re making your own scents, it’s not just practical in terms of cost, it’s also a great way for you to exercise your senses and pump up your creative juices. Since most of the ingredients are organic, you’ll be avoiding the toxic chemicals that are present in a lot of the commercial perfumes that you buy over the counter at your big brand stores.

So when you’re looking at perfumes or fragrances for summer, look for essential oils that lend themselves toward florals and citrus. You can mix and match and something in a combination of lavender and grapefruit or rose and lime or jasmine and orange. These are just some of the well loved and most common citrus combinations for the summer season. So…Summer is here, get ready to enhance your own natural body odor with a very natural and organic perfume.

That’s it for this week!  As always …
