Got black hair care challenges in the middle of a pandemic? Well technically it’s still the beginning, especially since, at the time of this writing, we’re only seven months in.
All signs point to this catastrophe being a two year, if not longer, ordeal.
This puts us in a real pickle when it comes to taking care of our hair and skin for that matter. Because your hair is your crown and glory, you immediately want to know how to solve challenges that might affect how it looks.
Thinning edges quickly come to mind. It’s a form of hair loss and for some reason, your temples don’t like a lot of stress. It doesn’t have to be from wearing wool caps or tight head wraps.
Stress is one of the main proponents of hair loss, along with hormonal changes in your body. That stress can be from wearing styles that pull your hair back off you face. When you pull your hair too tightly, it can be a big contributing factor.
Dry brittle hair can cause immediate hair loss. What’s causing your hair to be dry and brittle? Your shampoo could be stripping away your hair’s natural oils. Check the ingredients to make sure there are minimum sulfates and alcohol.
While they might work on oily/fur like hair, they certainly won’t work on your hair.
For you natural hair wearers, you’ll want to make sure you’re moisturizing your scalp weekly. A good hair oil can help with that.
Taking your vitamins and herbs that will nourish your hair and scalp and help prevent dryness, will also be beneficial.
For those of you that are still using relaxers, you’ve got to be even more careful. Blowing drying and flat ironing your hair can be damaging to your hair when you are under stress.
One of the most effective ways to solve your hair care challenges is to eat to nourish your entire body.
Your hair and skin are part of your entire makeup. What you eat to nourish your body as a whole will transfer over to the health of your hair and skin. When under stress, we seem to forget … we are what we eat.
When you slip in the chips and cookies as comfort food, you send your system into a state of dehydration from the salt and sugar. Yes both can cause you to dehydrate.
You know the drill, instead of looking for your sugar fix in cookies, cakes and candy, give fresh fruits a try. If you got to have your sugar fix, try baking your own. It will give you something to occupy your mind and you’ll know exactly what’s going into your sweets.
Definitely eat your fresh greens and drink lots of water. Collards, broccoli, spinach, kale, romaine and green leaf lettuce are just some of the delicious greens to add to your meal plan.
The healthier you eat, the less your hair will be damaged from outside stress. Give it a try and see for yourself.
