The topic of smoking and your beautiful black skin has never been widely discussed. For that matter smoking and skin care in general has never been widely discussed. It’s common knowledge that smoking is bad for your health but the specific effects on your skin have rarely been discussed in detail.
As an Esthetician it’s easy for me to say: “Don’t Smoke because it’s bad for your skin” but you already know that.
Whether you’re a 20-something year old school teacher that only smokes on weekends or a corporate executive that smokes a pack a day, if you’re smoking you’ll eventually see the deep lines, rough texture and skin discoloration that’s been slowly creeping up on you over the years.
Educating You About Smoking and Your Beautiful Black Skin
I’ll get right to the point:
Smoking Will Choke Your Skin – Smoking cigarettes or smoking in general causes a restriction of your blood vessels causing them to reduce your blood supply to your skin.
This causes a reduction in your oxygen supply that’s necessary for cell regeneration and the ability to carry away damaging free radicals. This causes toxins to build up and accelerate aging.
Smoking a single cigarette a day will cause vasoconstriction for up to 90 minutes. Smoking a pack-a-day will have your skin with reduced oxygen supply for most of the day.
Smoking Thins Your Skin
There are always test and studies being done and a recent study done by the British experts focused on 25 pairs of identical twins, one a lifetime smoker and one that never smoked.
The twin that smoked had skin that was 25% thinner than the nonsmokers.
Collagen and Elastin are Destroyed by Smoking
Sagging and loose skin, along with wrinkles are caused by the destruction of collagen and elastin. Smoking also robs your skin of Vitamin C, which is necessary for collagen production and it keeps your skin soft and revitalized.
Smoking Slows the Healing of Your Skin
Smoking hinders your skin’s ability to regenerate. Wounds take longer to heal and scars are more likely to form.
Did you know that many good cosmetic surgeons won’t even operate on a smoker.
Don’t think that these things will happen to your beautiful black skin? Keep smoking!
