Skin Tips for Sensitive African American Skin

Skin Tips for Sensitive African American SkinAfrican American beauties, does your beautiful dark skin rebel every time you try a new skin product? Fortunately, there are tons of ways you can pamper your skin without causing irritation and redness. Here are a few tips for your sensitive African American skin that will help you achieve a healthy glow in no time.

Always Test before Applying

Have you finally gotten your hands on the perfect face mask or beauty scrub? Before you lather oils and lotions on to your skin, test it out on a small inconspicuous part of your skin. Most experts recommend that you wait at least 24 hours for signs of allergies, redness and irritation.

If you have hypersensitive skin, consider testing the product one more time on a patch of skin next to your eyes. Allow it to stay for a couple of minutes and then rinse it off. This will reduce the risk of unfortunate acne breakouts in the future.

Opt for Mild or Gentle Beauty Products

Need a new moisturizer? Opt for a gentle  formula manufactured especially for sensitive African American skin. Browse online and you will discover a range of products that are perfect for your skin. If all hopes fail, make your own beauty products at home using natural ingredients, such as essential oils and fragrances. Additionally, purchase cosmetics carefully and toss away old products which may have expired or have gone bad. Over time, cosmetics become contaminated with bacteria. Do not forget to clean brushes regularly.

Use Sunscreen

While beautiful black skin has ample melanin and is not typically susceptible to sun damage, do not head outside without wearing sunscreen. Irritable skin does not react well to the sun. Invest in a sunscreen with an SPF value of 30 or higher.

Invest in a Good Cleanser

If your skin is sensitive to dust and debris, keep it clean at all times to prevent acne breakouts. Invest in a cleanser that is designed for sensitive skin but is not too gentle. Or else you will find yourself scrubbing vigorously just to get the makeup off your skin. Always be gentle while applying a cleanser and moisturize right away to prevent your skin from drying up.

Follow the above mentioned tips if you want to achieve beautiful and clear skin, regardless of how sensitive your skin is. The main point here is being careful as sensitive skin is more susceptible to skin issues, therefore, you need to minimize the risk.

That’s it for this week.  As always …
