Scrubing Butters [Updated 2019]Shea butter as a scrubbing butter? For a totally decadent experience give yourself a  body scrub before soaking in a warm tub.

Shea butter is a fantastic moisturizer all by itself. However, when Dead Sea salt, sugar, or other abrasives are whipped in for their exfoliating properties, it rises to an entirely new level of luxury.  Such salt scrubs can cost $70.00 or more at a spa. You can achieve the same results in the privacy of your own bathroom and for a fraction of the price.

Is Shea Butter a Miracle Worker?

Not all body scrubs are Shea butter based.  Some are basic Dead Sea Salts with oils and baking soda.  Others are made with coffee grinds.  However, body scrubs, especially those made with Shea butter, are a wonderful way to remove layers of dead skin cells. You will see a healthy glow to body. Shea butter scrubs stand head and shoulders above products made with inexpensive vegetable oils.

Shea butter has healing properties as well as being easily absorbed into your skin. It creates a moisture barrier on your skin, without feeling the least bit greasy.  When massaged into scars or stretch marks, Shea butter scrubs will help minimize their appearance.

Sometimes called the African miracle, Shea butter is a unique vegetable fat that is solid at room temperature. It emulsifies easily with other oils, including essential oils without separating in the container.  With the addition of salt, finely ground nut shells, pulverized coffee, or sugar, a new body scrub is created.

Frequently other beneficial oils are added to the base of Shea butter.  Oils like green tea oil, almond oil, jojoba, avocado, and fragrant essential oils only add to the luxuriant experience of a Shea butter scrub.  However, Shea butter should always be the first ingredient and make up the majority of the product.

How To Benefit Most From Your Shea Butter Scrub Experience

  • To get the most benefit from your Shea butter scrub, plan ahead so you won’t be disturbed.
  • Take the phone off the hook and put the Do Not Disturb sign on your bathroom door.
  • Then disrobe and begin scrubbing your body gently with the butter scrub, paying special attention to any rough spots like knees, elbows, and feet.
  • Start with the rough spots and gradually work your way around to the rest of your body.
  • Use a circular motion with your hand and adding more scrub as needed.
  • Be especially gentle on your face but don’t be afraid of scrubbing there too.
  • After you have covered your entire body fill the bath tub with warm water and slowly immerse yourself.  The water will dissolve the salt or sugar in the butter scrub will begin to melt.  Soak in this wonderfully moisturizing tub until you feel the stress flow out of you.
  • Rinse your  body and gently pat dry.
  • Finish up with a light oil to complete the treatment.
  • Make sure your new, shiny layer of skin is completely protected from the drying effects of wind and sun.
