Can a facial mask perform wonders on dry, oily, flaky, or just plain tired skin? There are dozens of products available, ready to use, and to give yourself a spa treatment facial at home.
Before setting out to purchase a facial mask, ask yourself what you want to fix or change about your complexion. Is your skin excessively oily? Does it feel dry and tight? Do you look dull and flaky in the mirror?
Whatever your specific skin type, there are specially formulated facial masks to bring out your best appearance.
Oily Skin
If you’re blessed with oily skin, stop complaining. Now! Your skin will age the best. Therefore, you will have fewer wrinkles than any skin type. And when they do show up, it will be much later in life.
Your greatest difficulty will be to prevent blackheads and clogged pores and this is easy if you use the right astringent products and facial masks.
For you, an occasional professional facial in a salon should keep your pores tiny. Don’t be seduced by those products that claim to “pull” the clogs out of your pores. These will damage your skin over time, making your pores permanently enlarged.
You’re better off using dissolving facial masks or clay that remove pore clogging matter gently.
Normal to Dry Skin
Normal to dry skin needs constant moisturizing to keep it smooth and wrinkle free. Never apply drying products to your face such as a clay mask or alcohol heavy products.
Your facial mask should be a deep-nourishing, penetrating type that leaves your skin feeling smooth and dewy. Honey mask are good for adding moisture to your skin.
Oily Skin
Look for ingredients that combat oily to excessive oiliness of your skin. Facial masks with astringents such as cucumber or citrus are good for oily skin. Clay based mask are also great for oily skin as the clay soaks up the excess oil and removes it.
Clay mask have been known to draw out impurities. From dirt and grim you encounter moving about outside, to the dirt and grime you get working in office buildings of your house for that mater. Clay masque can help remove the sludge.
For basic acne challenged skin, a clay mask have been known to draw out pimples, blackheads and whiteheads.
Activated charcoal is the new kid on the block when it comes to mask for oily/acne challenged skin. As with clay mask, it will help remove excess oil and impurities from your skin.
Dry Skin
Facial mask for dry skin will need ingredient s like hyaluronic acid, glycerin , honey … even aloe vera. Why? Because these ingredients are known as humectants. They attract and hold onto water.
Normal Skin
Honey is an excellent ingredient for normal skin types. It hydrates as well as softens your skin.
A regimen is a good idea for basic skin care. Cleanse, tone and moisturize. When you include a mask, it should be inserted into your lineup of products accordingly.
1. A good cleanser for your skin type. When in doubt a cream based cleanser will always work. Cleansing your skin will prep it for the next step. Remove dirt, grime and have it clean and soft to accept your mask.
2. Here’s where your mask comes in. Your mask will be applied after cleansing. Depending on your skin type, you can leave it on anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes.
3. Toner or astringent comes next. Astringents are used on oily skin types. Toners are used for normal to dry skin.
4. Moisturizer are next in line.
5. Your sunscreen. If you’re lucky, you’ve found a good moisturizer that has the sunscreen in it.
No matter if you buy your facial mask ready to use or concoct one from natural ingredients found in your kitchen, treating your face this way weekly will keep you looking fresh and youthful.
That’s it for this week. As always …
