Natural Hair CareWho says natural hair is not a beautiful thing?  Cleanse it, condition it and add some moisturizer to your scalp and you’re good to go.  Now for those of you who like a little color,  natural dyes are great for adding color to your hair.

They tend to be available at your local health food store. Avoid Blow/Hand dryers, they tend to dry out your hair. If you insist on using a dryer, make it a hood dryer, it distributes the heat evenly. Styles are plentiful, locked, twisted, braided, Nubian knotted or just free to be as you please.

You’ve grown up believing that your hair should conform to European standards, but straightening, lightening and flattening your lovely locks harms them. Many women of color now choose to wear natural curly hair instead.

You do not need to tame your hair. You were taught that your hair was ugly, when in essence, you’re a one-of-a-kind beauty with glorious hair that deserves proper care.

Even though hair care products have improved, many still have harmful chemicals. Instead, it’s a good idea for you to choose natural hair care products that nourish, strengthen and improve hair health.

The Natural Hair on Your Head

You have hair almost everywhere on your body, but the hair on your head is the most linked to beauty and the most obvious. You have 100,000 hair follicles on your scalp at birth and you never develop new ones. However, damaged or dormant follicles can sometimes regain health. This is why it is so very important to take care of what you have. You’re not going to get any more hair follicles.

The hair on your head once played an important role, because it kept our ancestors warm and protected them from the blazing African sun. Today, the hair on your head is more about style than survival.

You and the Uniqueness of Your Natural Hair

Let’s go spiritual with your hair. The spirally nature of your hair is an integral part of the cosmos. Everything spirals, from the electrons around an atom to the planets in the universe. You’re created in a spirally image for a reason. You’re a child of God, perfectly created to tap into the spiritual forces of the universe.

Daniel described his vision of heaven in the Bible. The Creator had “hair like the pure wool” (Daniel 7:9) and so do you. The words “spiral” and “spiritual” share common linguistic roots. You’re perfectly equipped to find inner balance and spirituality. You don’t have bad hair – you have the best hair possible!

With your hair in its natural state, you’re the only person that can be put into a dark room and easily identified by the hair on your head. Who says natural hair isn’t a beautiful thing?

Your dark hair has the highest concentration of melanin and absorbs all wavelengths of light and energy. Consequently, the Egyptians believed your hair has the most potential to receive Maat; the power that morally and justly balances and orders the universe.

Go figure, you and your natural hair balancing the universe.

I first published this post in April 2008.  When I took a look at what I’d written, all of 8 lines, I  knew it was time for an update. You really liked the 8 lines, so I thought I’d give you just a bit more.

Let me know what you think, I’d love to hear from you!
