Did you know that African American skin care products need to have the right ingredients in order to work? In the same way that some ingredients work better than others, some ingredients are more harmful than others. Some ingredients, for instance, can cause hyper-pigmentation or hypo-pigmentation.

The list of what ingredients are good for African American skin definitely does not include Sodium methyl paraben and chemical bleaching products.

Sodium methyl paraben is commonly found in skin care products. However, it has been linked to the occurrence of breast cancer and is in fact, banned in the Europe. It can also cause permanent skin discoloration. Another type of product that black skin should not come in contact with is petroleum content because it can cause hyper-pigmentation. When this happens, dark spots appear.

Products that have bleaching agents can be quite harmful to your skin so they should not be used. Black skin is especially prone to damage because of chemical bleaches. Your skin can become discolored or even burned. There are natural alternatives to bleaching products. Some excellent examples of what ingredients are good for African American skin are jojoba, vitamin E, and keratin. Extra-pone nut grass is another good ingredient that helps in evening out your skin tone.

Just like other types of skin, black skin can experience oiliness. Because of this, some creams and lotions need to be avoided because they can clog your pores further. Use a moisturizer that contains ingredients that do not stimulate the sebaceous glands further.

Sebaceous glands are found at the root of the hair follicles. Jojoba and passion fruit ingredients can work well with African American skin. These ingredients can help in moisturizing dry skin without making the skin greasy.

When it comes to anti-aging products, look for functional keratin in the list of ingredients. When this is combined with wakame kelp extract and antioxidants such as CoQ10 and vitamin E, new skin cells can be revealed. The wakame also helps to increase the firmness of your skin.

Antioxidants are better when they originate from natural supplies. These substances help combat free radicals. Free radicals are widely believed to be the culprit of premature aging. Their presence can result in dryness, wrinkles, and lack of suppleness to your skin.

Those with black skin benefit from finding products that contain antioxidants in order to keep signs of aging at bay. Before purchasing skin care products read the label carefully and watch out for ingredients that can harm your skin.

That’s it for this week, Until next time …
