I had the honor of speaking and vending this past weekend in Orlando at the Chase Ford Production of the Natural Hair and Beauty Expo.  It allowed me to meet new friends and catch up on news with old friends.

There seemed to have been a consistent theme of concerns you had and I’d like to share them with those of you that were not able to attend.

Here’s what you told me:

•    A lot of you are concerned with dark spots and uneven skin tones.  Well Juliette, this is nothing new. So true, but there were so many women with this challenge, it was like being hit over the head with a 2 by 4.  Why now black women are you having this overwhelming challenge with your  skin?

•    Adult acne was another challenge that kept popping up.  “Never before”, I kept hearing.  “I’ve never had acne, not even as a teenager”.  Why now?

•    Then there was the group that had dark spots, uneven skin tones, acne and hot flashes.  One woman said it was Eve’s fault and wanted to Pimp Slap Eve for eating the apple.

•    Dry skin!  What use to be oily is now becoming extremely dry.  What’s a girl to do?

Let’s  take a look at what causes some of these challenges.

Dark spots and uneven skin tones can be caused by too much sun, popping pimples, over exfoliation of your skin, the wrong product for your skin type and medication just to name a few.

Acne on the other hand can be induced by foods taken into your body that cause inflammation

Dry Skin can be caused by dehydration, the wrong products for your skin type and maturity.  From within your green foods and water consumption are important.  When I ask you how much water you drink, most of you tell me “Not Enough”.  The new rule is,  you should drink half your body weight in water.  If you weight 130 lbs, you should drink 65 ounces of water a day.  This equals just over 8 – 8 ounce glasses of water a day.  Okay, you can do this, just make sure you know where all the clean bathrooms are, especially when you begin this regimen.

Topical products should nourish, hydrate and moisturize your skin and have you looking young and radiant.  Hyaluronic acids, shea butter, jojoba oil and coconut oil are ingredients that you should look for to give your skin that young dewy look.

While I can never to the day justice with a short blurb of what took place, join us there next year, I’ll keep you updated and hope to see you in Orlando, September 2014.
