Michelle Obama, Style, Flair and Oh! … that Hair

Michelle Obama is still a fashion icon.

It was a week of great change and most of the world watched as leadership changed in the White House. Fashion is no exception. Every wife of the President brings a sense of style to the building.

Past President’s and their wives return in celebration of the occasion. Michelle Obama has always shown up with style and flair whenever she stepped out.

She did not disappoint, she showed up and showed out. Her three-piece outfit and that show stopper belt from designer Sergio Hudson, stopped the internet. At least for most black folks.

Michelle Obama is no ordinary woman. From her statue to her intelligence, she stands out when she walks into any room.

Finding Power in the Choice of An Outfit

While Michelle Obama doesn’t have to look for power, she definitely knows how to convey it when styled in the proper garment

If you remember when she first entered the White House as First Lady, her wardrobe had to find its way. Some pieces were not always flattering, especially when being critiqued by Black Women.

As she matured in her position, her wardrobe choices became more about who she truly was instead of who she should be as First Lady.

Some outfits, nailed it. Others often had you wondering: what was the stylist thinking when they chose a given outfit? Granted, her formal gowns were always on point. No one walks around in formal gowns on a daily basis.

Michelle Obama, Inauguration 2021

I don’t get why people kept referring to the Merlot color as purple. In plain English it would have been described as burgundy. By some, it was.

The choice of a Merlot three-piece outfit with matching belt was a perfect choice for the day. It was clearly the choice for a woman with confidence. A woman who wanted to be dressed for the occasion and relaxed at the same time. Stylist Meredith Koop gets the credit for the show stopping look.

Can We Get to The Hair?

We’d just seen pictures of her sharing her natural hair on the internet days before the inauguration.

Just like any other woman dressing for the occasion, hair plays a pivotal role in the complete look. The only thing that would have topped the look she had, would have been a big Afro or at least her natural curls.

The credit for those bouncy curls goes to Yene Damtew. Other hair stylist have weighed in on what a great job she did, incorporating Mrs. Obama’s natural hair with the perfect extensions. Side part, soft curls, beautiful sheen. What more could you ask for?

Laid, slayed and absolutely gorgeous.

What Are Your Thoughts …

It’s always a good feeling when you see a Black Woman well dressed. That’s probably an understatement when it comes to Mrs. Obama and her wardrobe choices. What are your thoughts on her Inauguration 2021 Day outfit?

Share them in the comment box. We’d love to hear from you.

That’s it for this week. As always ..
