Skin care For Mature African American SkinWow, this has been some week!

Phone calls from you ladies about your skin, your makeup not staying on, you’re having night sweats, day sweats, afternoon sweats, you’ve got your men on pause, hence menopause is giving you a very hard time.

So how do you take care of your skin when menopause and one of her cousins, night sweats shows up? One of the best things to do is keep your skin clean. Morning and at night: Cleanse, Tone and Moisturize.

Another thing you might want to cut back on is how much makeup you’re wearing. Your makeup and ingredients in a lot of them, cause you to perspire and sweat even more so because it has you feeling closed in on your face.

So, yes your skin is beautiful enough that you do not need makeup, especially if it’s in the summertime or warmer climates (Southeast, Southwest, Caribbean Island, Central America, Africa, Australia …).

These are two of the most obvious things you can do:  keep your skin clean and cut back on the makeup. But when you look at menopause from a dietary point of view, one of the things that can trigger hot flashes is sugar.

What’s One of the Biggest Culprits To Hot Flashes and Menopause

One of the biggest culprits when comes to hot flashes is sugar and it can send your cells into shock. It’s a carbohydrate, goes straight to the bloodstream, and when it goes straight to the bloodstream it takes your sugar levels up so you can get this instant burst of energy. Then it will have you crashing.

When your body is experiencing menopause, it triggers hot flashes because that’s one way of releasing itself through your system by sweating.

So if you’re going to have your sugar, the best time to have it would be early mornings and midday if you opt for a dessert. But after midday, it’s wise to make sure you’re drinking water to flush all of that through your system and don’t take in any other sugar content whether it’s through fruit or chocolate bars and more importantly your breads and pastas.

They break down into sugars in your system so you’re still going to have the same type of reaction as far as that instant uplifting, and then the crash and then the hot flashes and night sweats.

What You Eat is Important to Minimizing Hot Flashes

Your diet is extremely important. This is where you want to make sure you’ve got lots of green foods, whether it’s in salad form or green vegetables or sauteed or stir fried. Your water intake is also crucial and this will help keep things moving through your system.

You don’t want back up or sludge forming in your colon because that in conjunction with hot flashes creates a slow down in how your blood will flow through your system as well as how your food moves through. Anytime your food doesn’t move through, it’s fermenting in your colon.

If you find yourself confronted with hot flashes and menopause, you might want to consider definitely eliminating or at least eating sugar in a very small portion in your diet.

For about the fifth time, have water on hand at all times to keep your system flushed. Fruit juices, teas with sweeteners, they too should be eliminated or minimized from your regimen, and keep your skin as clean as possible, especially your face with the rest of your body.

Last Tidbit …

Sweating a lot? If you can shower midday, so be it, but if not, the less makeup you wear, the less you’re going to have to contend with this overwhelming feeling of being smothered or choked.

The makeup is actually sitting and clogging your pores, so your pores are not breathing and the freshness of the air is not penetrating through your skin providing you with that flawless appearance.

Minimize or scratch the makeup completely. A little mascara and lip gloss will work just fine.

That’s it for this week.  As always …
