Bronze lips - 503b5954f0792d88a05f4923a5f95081Certainly you want to pay attention to them every day.

However, with both winter and Valentine’s here, you might think a bit more about paying tribute to one of your most sexy and glorious attributes: Your lips.

Why you should exfoliate with a lip scrub

  • Removal of the dead skin surface of your lips reveals new fresh layers, making lips soft and smooth
  • Exfoliation will make your lips more moist and ready for kissing
  • Lip color will last longer – the smooth surface is better for the adherence of your lipstick, lip liner and gloss

A natural recipe not only ensures that no drying ingredients are included but it’s also cost effective and delicious. Most recipes will include the beneficial properties of essential oil, as well as carrier oils, sugar and/or honey.

Use honey. A few drops of honey can remove fine lines as well as moisturize. To heal dry, chapped lips, apply a few drops at night with a gentle removal in the morning.

Lip Scrub Recipes

Honey & Coconut Oil Lip Scrub
Combine 1 teaspoon honey, 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 tablespoon coconut oil, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract in a glass container.

Cinnamon Lip Scrub
Mix 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 2 tablespoons sugar, 3 drops cinnamon essential oil, ½ teaspoon vitamin E oil and 1 tablespoon coconut oil in a glass container.

Coffee & Honey Lip Scrub
Coffee grounds are a soothing secret weapon for maintaining beauty – rich in antioxidants as well as exfoliating and anti-inflammatory properties.

Stir and mash 2 tablespoons used coffee grounds with ¼ tablespoons coconut oil and a teaspoon honey. Add 1-2 drops of your favorite essential oil.

How to Use:

Gently massage over the surface of your lips.  The oils will not only help with softening the sugars and coffee grounds, it will also help in moisturizing your lips and protect the skin of your lips.

Don’t forget to store your natural product in a cool, dry place in a small jar (try mini mason jars or baby food jars) with a lid.

Moisturizing after you scrub

After you scrub, seal in the moisture with a bit of coconut oil.

Why you should use lip balm

  • Prevents dry and chapped lips
  • Assists in quick healing – the delicate skin on your lips is thinner than any other area of your face
  • Can shield from UV with SPF protectors with natural ingredients like beeswax

Natural lip balms are great for moisturizing in your regular lip care and are perfect as a gift for your daughter or any of the sistas in your circle.

Easy Cocoa Lip Balm Recipe
This recipe provides moisture and nutrients yes, but we love the taste and color too!

Add to all natural beeswax (grated or small granules), castor oil, vitamin E oil in a glass, microwave-safe container, for one minute on high. Stir using a popsicle stick before melting one more time in the microwave. Add shea butter with the heat from the mixture melting it down and stir until it dissolves completely. Stir in generous helpings of cocoa powder to eliminate any lumps. Pour into containers or mini pots.

All Natural Lip Balm Base Recipe

Combine the following for melting (microwave or stove top in a gently warming pot of water) for about a minute in a glass container: ¼ cup carrier oil (coconut, sweet almond, or grape seed) and ¼ cup butter (cocoa, shea or mango) and beeswax or soy wax.

Mix and stir to the texture of your liking. Let harden for a few minutes. Add additional wax to make it firmer or oil to make it softer. Now add several drops of your preferred essential oil (for its properties and flavor).

Some suggestions are vanilla, orange, and peppermint. Optional: add 1 teaspoon of powdered herbs for color (e.g. deep red of nutritious beet root). Stir well leaving no lumps before pouring carefully into lip balm tubes or tins.

Those close to you will be very happy you take the time to achieve soft, luscious and smooth lips.

With love and kisses, As always …
