Baby it’s cold outside! Not yet, but it coming and as the temperatures begin their spiral into numbers that I don’t even want to think about, your skin is going to need some special attention. A good shea butter body cream is a great place to start.
Not only does African American Skin have to contend with the onslaught of colder temperatures, you’ll also have to deal with the harshness of the water. So what happens? Your skin will need extra hydration and moisturizing in order for it to maintain it’s smooth, soft, silky feeling.
Yes, you’ll want to step up your oil application but you’ll also want to enhance the process by adding shea butter to your regimen. I’ve found that if you use a shea butter body cream, not the raw butter, and then top off your application with some jojoba oil, your skin will maintain it’s soft supple feeling. On top of that, you won’t witness the gray ashy look that always manages to make it’s presence known.

One thing that we often overlook, is exfoliating our skin during those colder months. We feel that because most of the body is fully covered, why bother? But it’s the exfoliation of your skin that’s going to keep it feeling soft to the touch and the old gray mare known as “ashy skin” will be kept to a minimum.
If you keep your skin moisturized and exfoliated during the colder months, it will be that much more luxurious and soft to the touch when it’s time to shed your winter clothes.
Until next time,
