African American SkinHave you ever thought of your complexion as being so good, you could skip your foundation? You tell me that you want to look beautiful and have clear skin naturally.

Ok, that can happen! It will take some effort on your part though. Oh, you thought it would be easy? Not this time. All kidding aside, why do you cover your skin with foundations to begin with?

Let’s take a look at 3 of the top reasons:

1. Uneven Skin Tone – Most of you are looking for a way to even your skin tone or to cover dark spots. This can often have you applying makeup so thick that you’ll feel as though you’re wearing a mask.

What’s caused the uneven skin tone? It could be from sun damage, acne, hormones or medications. These are some of the culprits behind your hyperpigmentation challenges and the reason you possibly don’t experience that flawless complexion you seek.

How do you treat it? By treating the challenged area only, with natural ingredients that will brighten your skin like licorice or arbutus you could see results that you’ll be proud of. It won’t happen overnight, however it will happen with a little time and patience.

2. Dullness in Your Skin – One of the reasons African American skin is challenged with noticeable dullness is because of the accumulation of dead skin cells on your skin. As the dead skin cells build up on the top layer of your skin, they inhibit your complexion’s natural ability to reflect light, causing it to appear as a dull, ashy gray look.

How do you treat it? Exfoliation is the key, however you can not approach your skin as though you’re scrubbing pots. By gently and lightly exfoliating your skin, it will remove the dead skin cell build up and boost your skin’s natural radiance without irritating it.

3. Inflammation – This can often cause irritation to your skin resulting from sensitivity to products/ingredients or over exfoliation.

How do you treat it? – By keeping your skin care regimen simple and using mild cleansers like green tea facial cleansers, rosewater toners or essential oil blends, your skin will experience the calm, soothing ingredients of such products.

While these are the main culprits that can keep you from having a flawless complexion, don’t overlook the roll of the foods you eat when it comes to the beauty of your skin. Nutrition plays a crucial roll in the appearance of your skin.

It’s a known fact that the better the quality of your food, the better the appearance of your skin. Lots of green vegetables, fruits, nuts (in moderation) and water, will help you keep your system flushed, thereby giving you the flawless complexion you desire.

That’s it for this week, until next time …
