As with most things in life, it’s the choices that are made that determine the outcome. Your beautiful black skin, your luxuriously radiant black hair. Yes, I talking to You. Have you made the right choices for it’s health?
Don’t quite like the reflection gazing back at you in the mirror? Well, have you been taking care of your skin and hair? For some there might be a few challenges but it’s not that difficult.
Cleanse – with a product that’s been especially formulated for Black Skin, you’ll want to use this product twice a day (morning and night). Products that contain lactic acid ( a milk based product) is gentle for all skin types and will not strip your skin of its natural oils.
Tone– Toners are used to bring your skin pH balance back into place. Yes the product will have great ingredients for your skin but will the water have the same. The additives put into the water can reek havoc on your skin.
Moisturize – All skin needs a good moisturizer, even oily skin just not as much. Moisturizers help to lock the moisture into your skin. That’s one of the reasons you can proudly say “Black Don’t Crack”
Once a week, you’ll want to give yourself a facial mask. Mask are a way of exfoliating your skin. They help to remove dead skin cells that build up and cause your skin to appear dull, ashy and gray.
Well of course you’ll be washing your hair but, what will you use? Shampoo’s that strip the oil from your hair is not the best choice. You’ll want to look for products that were created for your beautiful black tresses. I know, some of your tresses are blond, and red and auburn but your texture is still that of African American Hair. Herbal blends that soften and moisturize your hair, nettles, rosemary, sage, aloe vera in a natural base. I don’t want to use the term “soap” because soaps are often detergent based. A mild castile soap is a a good choice.
Conditioners – these blends are used to soften and nourish your hair. One of the basic conditioning treatments used by Black Women is the hot oil treatment. Add some herbs to your oil blend and it’ll be like feeding your hair with its own special food.
How often?- If your hair is relaxed/permed, you’ll want to treat it once a week. If you’re wearing natural hair, depending on your style- locs, braids, twist- you’ll want to give it a good cleansing once a week to every two weeks.
As long as you keep any regimen skin or hair, simple, you’ll enjoy a radiant, glowing complexion and a beautiful head of healthy, luxuriously shiny hair.
