A change in the season means a change in your black skin care regimen, especially for African American Skin.  The climate often has something to do with your skin’s condition and its reaction to the products that you use.  In warmer climates your skin needs to breathe and would therefore appreciate a lighter formulation of skin care products.

Here are a few tips when caring for your beautiful Black Skin:

Here Comes the Sun

Summer is all about fun in the sun but any black skin care specialist worth their weight in gold, will tell you to wear a sunscreen.  Fortunately, your skin has a natural SPF but it doesn’t mean that you should not have added protection.

A sunscreen that’s an SPF 30 is what’s typically recommended for your beautiful black skin as you play in the sun.

And yes, you should avoid over exposure in the sun.  Remember when your grandmother’s and mother’s wore those beautiful straw hats and sported their umbrella even when it wasn’t raining?  They knew something that you didn’t about sun exposure and had learned how to co-exist with its beautiful rays.

Keep it Light

Black Skin Care Products for colder climates or winter months are typically heavier and greasier.  You’ll want to replace them with formulations that are oil-free and water based.

The same rule applies to make up.  And you’ll definitely want to clean your makeup brushes and other tools more frequently to ward off bacteria growth that occurs faster when it’s hot.

You’ll also want to keep your make up at a minimal and as natural looking as possible.  This might be a great time to try out that mineral make up you’ve heard so much about.

If you’re looking to try a new black skin care product, purchase a sample size first.  This will give you just enough to use and determine whether or not the product is a good choice for your skin.

Keep your skin hydrated

Not only should you drink plenty of water to hydrate from within, but a spritz bottle with water for misting your face is a great way to refresh your skin when it’s hot outside.

Artificial drinks such as soda and flavored water don’t replace the benefits of real water.

So the next time you’re out and about in the sun, remember to wear your straw hat, it will help you protect your beautiful black face.  Keep your make up light so as not to clog your pores and have your water for internal and external skin care.
