Winter … that time of year when you’re either flocking to your skin care therapist or you’re putting together your own black skin care regimen for the standard skin woes this time of year.

The main challenge is often a lack of moisture in the air that leads to dull, dry, ashy looking skin.

The constant motion of going outdoors into chilly temps and indoors into heated dwellings can present a challenge for your skin.  For some of you it can wreak havoc on your skin.

Cold Weather Regimen for African American Skin

Have you developed your cold weather regimen?  With each season not just winter, your skin care regimen needs to be changed.

Your traditional regimen of cleansing, toning and moisturizing will still be the foundation of your facial.  You can benefit greatly by using a moisturizing, cream-based cleanser as opposed to water based ones.

Using a cream based product with Green tea will make an excellent facial cleanser. But how about adding seasonal ingredients like pumpkin, honey and cinnamon.  These ingredients can help soothe, nourish and rejuvenate your skin.

While you’re caring for your beautiful black skin, don’t forget about your hands and feet.  They don’t escape the onslaught of winter temperatures that contribute to them being dry and cracked.

Exfoliating your skin should be an added step in your regimen, especially during winter months.

While some of you will be tempted to try microdermabrasion, a more subtle approach of using a jojoba facial scrub can work for you.

If you find that the air in your space is unbearably dry, purchasing a humidifier to infuse moisture into your home is not a bad idea.  Sunscreens are just as important in winter months as summer.

Sequins, Shimmer and Radiant Backs

The Fall/Winter season brings lots of Holiday celebrations.  From October to January there are parties to attend.

You step in with your full length Mink (I’ve never seen PETA dump paint on a Black woman wearing fur) and upon removing your coat, not only is your gown elegantly adorned but also your back is just as radiant.

What’s your secret?  You get regular back facials!  Back facials are an important component of caring for black skin.  Your Back gets blackheads, whiteheads, dryness and dead skin cell build up just like your face.

So a good back facial at least four times a year (every three months) would work wonders for you.

Embrace the seasonal changes, they’re coming whether you’re ready or not.  Preparing for them makes your skin challenges a lot easier to work with.
