fall fashionFall fashion season is here. For some of you the temps this year during the summer months were unbearable. I’m talking heat and humidity staring you in the face. Relief is here! The temps are cooling off, you can breathe again and you look forward to adding those new and not so new pieces to your wardrobe.

Where do you begin for your fall fashion list?

There’s nothing like updating your go to topper, The Trench Coat. It’s one of the few pieces that’s a must have in your closet. The Trench can take you from business sophistication to weekend easy cool.

This year, The trench has a range of fabrics and color tones that shows you that khaki doesn’t need to be the only color in your closet.

This season gives you khaki with Versace inspired lapels and pockets as well as pinstripes. Plaids, bold colors and patent leather are all part of The Trench offerings this season.

Using Texture to make your wardrobe pieces more interesting. That’s right, plaids, chevron prints, herringbone, wool with sequins and shearling paired with denim.  There’s something for you to try.

Cashmere sweaters make the perfect accent piece when worn with a sequined skirt. Shearling jackets over denim jeans, how warm and comfy can this be?

And boots … If you haven’t shopped for your boots yet, you’re really pushing it. You know that by the time October rolls in, sizes are depleted, especially for those of us that wear size 9’s and up.

Your Fall Fashion Staples

  • No wardrobe is complete without the basics. Black slacks, (dress pants, leather and a pair of jeans). A jacket, leather, tweed or plaid. Cashmere sweaters (black, gray and camel).
  • Knee boots, ankle boots and/or mid-calf boots will find their place in your wardrobe for the season. If all three lengths are in your budget, make it happen. You’d be surprised at how the varying lengths will change the look and feel of the same outfit when worn for different occasions.
  • A nice tote bag to handle quick shopping from grocery to fashion runs. This is not a piece of luggage, so don’t try to stuff any and everything into it. Doing so can cause trauma to your back as well as cause body alignment issues.
  • A Hat – For some of you, the hat becomes the most important accessory piece of the season. It can change everything. From tams, to fedora’s hats at a certain mystique to your look.
  • Scarves, gloves, jewelry and tights … yes these are all staples for your fall fashion wardrobe. They’ll help you change 5 basic pieces into the looks of many.
  • No fall fashion tip staple is complete without mentioning great skin care.  I’ll go deeper in depth in another article about seasonal skin care regimens.  But for now, know that your skin care regimen will need change because the weather is changing.

While this list of fall fashion pieces is not complete, it will certainly get you started with the basics. It will also give you an opportunity to set a foundation for your wardrobe and build on it for the coming years.

That’s it for this week. As always …
