Hairless body, summer heatYes, we’re in the middle of summer and hair in “certain areas” can be the culprit for body odor. So how do you remove it? There’s waxing, razors and depilatory creams. Let’s take a look a waxing, since it seems to be the choice for a lot of you.

What is waxing? Why Wax? And what are the benefits of waxing in comparison to using a razor for shaving or the depilatory creams, such as Nair and Neet, to remove hair?

When you wax you’re removing hair from its root as oppose to shaving which cuts hair at the surface of your skin. The same thing happens with depilatory creams, you’re melting the hair off at the surface of the skin.

Waxing also minimizes if not totally eliminates, the possibility of getting ingrown hairs. There’s nothing worse than getting an ingrown hair in your private area. Speaking of your private area, did you know that there are estheticians that specialize in Brazilian waxes and cater to women only?

Brazilian Waxing? What is that?

Want to have “all” of your hair removed from your V-JJ? That’s what you get when you have a Brazilian wax job done. Why is it called Brazilian? If you know anything about Brazil, you know that it’s hot and known for it’s dental floss bikini’s. With the exposure of more body parts, it meant you needed to see less hair. In Brazil this is the norm.

As the string bikini made its way into North America in the 1980’s it was necessary to have the same hair removal techniques. Story has it that 7 sisters from Brazil, the J Sisters, brought the technique to New York City. Their first names all began with the letter J.

Armpits, Legs and Toes

Most of the conversation for hair removal is centered around your private parts, however your arm pits, legs and toes are also areas where hair is grown and removed. While some find it sexy, there’s nothing more “challenging” than to look up and see a patch of hair coming from under a woman’s armpit when wearing a sleeveless dress.

Some people consider body hair a natural pheromone enhancer. It’s a given that when you perspire, your body hair will hair will generate a certain odor. It’s not always pleasant to the people around you. Therefore your choice of deodorant will be extremely important when out in public.

If you insist on Not removing the hair from your armpits, please choose a short sleeve dress over sleeveless.

Leg hair is also considered “sexy” by a lot of you. Since hair removal goes back to the Egyptians, your ancestors, I’m not quite sure how we got off into the more hair you have on your body the better mindset. The cave dwellers needed hair to provide warmth. You’re tropical people, therefore you would not need extra hair to provide warmth to your body.

And as for your toes, yes, there are actually dark skinned people that have hair growing on their toes.

They’re not twins, they’re sisters- Your Brows!

More so than Brazilian and bikini hair removal, the removal of excess hair in your eyebrows is the most popular hair removal request. They’re not twins, they’re sisters just means that you will not see a perfect brow arch when it comes to hair removal.

Waxing and threading are the most popular techniques when it comes to removing hair from your brows. There are some people that still get this service with the use of tweezers. Got to luv’em, the client and the technician.

Prepping For Your Waxing Appointment.

Don’t drink coffee or alcohol before your wax appointment. It’s also a good idea not to take aspirin prior to getting waxed, as these things can thin your blood and make your skin a bit more sensitive and reactive to the treatment.

If you know that waxing will cause you to experience a bit more pain than someone else, take an ibuprofen about 45 minutes to an hour before getting waxed.

If your dermatologist has prescribed a product with Retin-A, you’ll want to not take it seven to 10 days before your appointment.

Types of waxes used on on your skin: There’s hard wax, which is typically used on armpits and for Brazilian and bikini waxes. The hard wax does not require a strip and it tends to be less painful and hard on your skin.

Soft wax is used when removing hair from your legs, back and face. You use a cloth strip with soft wax in order to remove the hair and the wax from your skin. Soft wax is often used when removing hair from armpits as well.
