Dark elbows, knees and toes.  It’s the middle of the summer, hot as all get out and you’ve decided to show a bit more of your skin than usual.  Your skirt has become 2 inches shorter and the ¾ inch sleeve is now no sleeve at all.  Did I mention that cute pair of sandals you’ve been waiting to slip on and step out in?

With all of these things in place, you forgot to prepare for skin exposure and you’re being met with dark knees, elbows and toes. You can see how toddlers might have dark elbows, knees and toes.

Unless they’re being carried around by an adult, their main mode of transportation is on their knees and hands and dragging their toes across the floor or carpet.

Are You Baffled By Your Dark Elbow, Knees and Toes?

But for adults how do we get these same challenges?  For your knees it’s not so obvious. Unless you scrub your floors on your hands and knees, I’m baffled.  But your toes and elbows that’s another story.

Tight shoes have a tendency to rub your toes, not only causing dark spots but often corns as well. The friction caused by the back and forth of rubbing your skin against the leather will eventually irritate your skin.  Not only that, sun exposure and the rubbing of the straps of your sandals will often cause dark irritated skin and toes.

When you’re driving or working at your desk and work station, your elbows see a lot of activity. Take a look at the wear and tear on the arm rest of your car or favorite chair, what part of your body lands at that part of the chair?

How do you solve the problem of dark elbow, knees and toes?

Exfoliation is the best remedy. You’re dealing with a buildup of dead skin cells whether it’s your knees, toes or elbows.  Your elbows in particular take chair arm abuse on a daily basis, so some extra special attention should be given to them.

A scrub and a masque will work wonders. I use the Body Butter Scrub that I have in the line.  It’s rich in Shea butter and oils but has two additional ingredients of sea salt and turbinado sugar that give you the exfoliation that you need.

Want to make your own? Mix coconut oil and sugar together, enough to make a paste like mixture.  Apply it to your elbows, knees or toes.  Let it dry.  Then gently rub the area back and forth to remove the dead skin cells.

A masque made from baking soda and milk can be applied after you exfoliate for about ten minutes.  Remove it with warm water.
The key after this treatment is to moisturize with lotion, body butter or cream.  Have your strokes going in an upward motion towards your shoulders.

This way, you’ll get into the cracks and crevice of your skin.
