How to Keep Your Natural Hair Moisturized

Your natural black hair is beautiful and you have the luxury of using oils and shampoos to keep it strong and healthy.  The choice of wearing your hair natural, means that it will need extra care when it comes to keeping it clean and styling it.

Massaging your scalp regularly helps in stimulating your body’s natural oil and will help in minimizing your hair’s dryness.

If your hair is very dry, you can use a hair oil on your scalp after you shampoo it.  Of course, once you oils your scalp, this is another reason for you to give yourself a great head massage, Again!

Whether you’re in the shower, bath tub or shampooing your hair, warm water should be your choice for cleansing.  Hot water can be irritating to your scalp, and if you wash your hair in one or the same direction, you’ll keep your hair from becoming tangled.

Another rule of thumb is to not wash your hair on a daily basis.  Washing natural black hair too much will strip the natural oils from your hair.  While natural hair can often be low in moisture, it requires more care but with less washing.  Hot oil treatments are helpful, since the lubricate your scalp and help our hair stay moisturized.

Choosing the Right Oil for Your Natural Black Hair

When you’re looking for an African American hair care product, especially a hair oil, you might want to consider how absorbent it is and its thickness.  Some oils are much lighter in weight and can be absorbed more easily.

Think about the benefits and qualities you want in your hair oil:  Coconut oil is good for your scalp and soothes minor irritations.  Macadamia nut oil, helps in protecting your hair from environmental pollutants.

Camellia oil has a lot of vitamin E and Alec acid in it, which will help in smoothing and adding shine to  your hair. It works well on dull hair and hair with frizzes (that would be most African American Hair), and since it’s very light in weight, it is easily absorbed by your scalp and hair.

Castor oil is known to protect your scalp and hair from the elements in your environment.  It may also improve hair growth and thickness and since it’s thicker and harder to absorb, it works better if you blend it with other types of hair oils.

Finding the right combination of natural hair oils isn’t always easy but when you do , it will give your hair the needed moisture it deserves and help in keeping your hair from drying out.
