African American Skin Care in “Hot” Weather

The temperatures in the US have been above 100 degrees with no let up.  I’ve heard everything from it’s hotter than a Motha, to it’s hotter than July.  Well it was during July that the temperature tested themselves setting record highs in some places.

Whether you chose to go to the beach, as Serena Williams did, or go to the pool, we are all looking for a place to keep cool.

Caring For African American Skin in Hot Weather

On the good side of things, these temperatures allow your skin to get a different type of treatment.

  • Washing your face at least three times a day-  Morning, noon and night- is a great place to begin. The salt that’s naturally coming from your body via sweat will sit on your skin if you don’t remove it.
  • Drinking plenty of water-  for those of you that don’t particularly like water- now is a good time to start.  This will keep you hydrated from within.
  • Make up-Forget about it in this heat, you’ll be wiping off before it sets.  Not to mention ruining your clothes.

You’ll still want to maintain your basic black skin care regimen – Cleanse, Tone and moisturize.  Your skin will need extra special attention.  If you find that you’re outside more than you’d like to be, keep a spray bottle in your purse with spring water to mist your face from time to time.  Not only will it hydrate your skin but you’ll feel refreshed as well.

Eating Healthy for African American Skin In The Heat

Most of you will want to eat less just because the heat can make you sluggish.  So when you’re looking for foods to keep you and your skin cool, salads will make great meals.

Green salads with spinach, broccoli, peppers (red-green-orange and yellow), yellow squash and red onions.  Add a little lime/lemon juice (fresh squeezed) and an herbal sea salt blend and you’ve got a great meal.

Don’t leave the fruit out of your diet.  A good watermelon chilled and cut into bite sizes is great.  Berries on top of honeydew or cantaloupe is also refreshing.

Avoid soda’s and caffeine drinks because they’ll dehydrate you with a quickness.
