As the temperatures cool down and the seasons changes, your skin will begin to dry out and a moisturizer is a must.  This is also the time to possibly switch to products that will keep your beautiful black skin supple and well-hydrated.

The moisturizer that you used as a night cream during the warmer months can now possibly be used for day as well.

Taking care of African American Skin is usually a matter of being gentle and diligent.  Although your skin is usually more sensitive, there are natural formulations that are available to take care of your concerns.  Even though you might have oily skin, natural products are still the best solution when taking care of your skin.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when caring for African American Skin in colder temperatures and climates:

  • Take cover– Use clothing that protects you from being exposed to winter elements. Cold air is drying to your skin so don’t go out without using a lotion with sunscreen. Yes, sun protection is still important even in colder climates, especially if you ski.
  • Go all out for natural ingredients – Black skin is sensitive so don’t let harsh ingredients touch it. Green tea, grape seed, citrus fruits, jojoba, sage, rosemary, aloe vera, virgin coconut oil and olive oil are just some of the safe ingredients to use.
  • Hydrate your skin – Sensitive and dry are not a good combination but if your skin is like this, you need to hydrate it throughout the winter/colder months. Drink lots of water and at the same time avoid sweets, salty and oily food. What’s good about water is that you can’t overdose which means the more you drink up, the better. Water can flush out toxins from your body and helps your organs function optimally. If you want some flavor, pick your favorite fruits and green leafy vegetables and juice them all up. Don’t add sugar because natural is best. If you’re not used to the taste, use honey, in moderation, to sweeten it up a little.

Caring for black skin is all about balance.  If you find the perfect products and complement them with a healthy lifestyle, you can easily breeze through winter and maintain well-hydrated and glowing skin.
