I don’t know about you, but it seems that as the years pass, my skin needs that extra bit of tender loving care. While I’m not trying to have the body or the skin of a 25 year old, I do want my skin to be soft, sensual and smooth when touched.
I thought I’d share some of my rituals with you in hopes that they might inspire you to do the same.
Body Products – Of course slathering a butter, cream, oil or lotion on your body is part of this ritual. Body products help soften and moisturize your skin and are best applied right after your shower or bath.
There’s nothing like rubbing a beautifully scented product all over your body and enjoying its magnificent aroma.
The key is to make sure the aroma you’re enjoying is naturally scented and not that of synthetic blends. Essential oils are a great way of enhancing your body products. Not only will you experience the beauty of their scents, you’ll also benefit from the properties they provide for your skin.
Massage – There’s nothing like a great body massage. As my birthday approaches, my daughter asked me what would I like to do other than have a massage. A full body massage is always part of my gift. Most of us don’t realize how wired up we are until the massage therapist lays hands on you.
You hear a lot about touch therapy and laying on of hands having healing benefits to the recipient. It’s true. Add full body massage to your to do list. Don’t have a birthday anytime soon, make up a reason.
The benefits to your skin are priceless. The massage action dislodges toxic buildup in your tissues, scatters released toxins and facilitates their drainage and removal through your blood and lymph. Did I mention you also get soft, smooth to the touch skin and let’s not forget that radiant glow you experience afterwards. It’s a great gift for you to receive! Don’t forget to drink at least 2 glasses of alkaline water right after your massage.
Skin Brushing – Have you ever tried skin brushing? It’s an interesting way to get beautiful skin. Skin brushing is another form of assisting your lymph system in cleansing itself of toxins that lay just below your skins surface.
Brushing your skin in the morning just before you shower or bathe for three to five minutes will work wonders for your skin. Use a natural fibre brush with a long handle. This allows you to get your back as well as the top of your feet without compromising your posture, if need be. Remember to always brush towards your heart.
Relaxation – Your skin will benefit from you doing nothing. When I want to ensure that I do only one thing, I take a bath. This is the best form of relaxation for me. You might have another method of relaxing … a long walk or sitting by a pond or on the shore of a beach. I love all of these things.
However, if you’re looking to further enhance the beauty of your skin, a nice bath in Epsom salt and Himalayan salt will help draw out toxins from your skin. It’s been said that one or two of these types of baths will help encourage weight loss. Go figure!
Steaming – Steam and heat help to promote the removal of toxins from your skin. If you don’t have access to a steam room, take a hot bath. The key is to not stay longer than 15 minutes in the water. Spending too much time immersed in a tub of hot water will give you prune skin. Whereas sitting in a steam room will allow you to sweat and the water and toxins will run off your skin.
These are just some of the things I do to enhance the beauty of my skin. Of course exercise, fasting and the foods eaten play their role in how I maintain my skin.
What have you done for your skin lately? I’d love to hear from you. Share your thoughts in the comment section.
That’s it for this week. As always …
