It’s not often that I’m able to watch TV these days but I found myself sitting on the sofa watching the Tyra Banks show.  Her topic of the day was Bleaching for Beauty. I was so hurt to see that Black women are still suffering from self hate.  These women used everything on their face from your typical bleaching creams, to prescription strength bleaching creams to “Clorox”.  That’s right mop the floor, sanitize the bathroom, clean the kitchen counters “Clorox”

The saddest of all was to watch as Tyra talked to three sons of one of the women.  Their mother not only scrubbed their faces with products that she used but she also used her prescription bleaching cream on their little faces.

Come on Black Woman, don’t you know that your complextion  is the real litmus test for ‘true beauty’. Check out the other isle in the pharmacy where you find sun tanning lotion and bronzing creams.  You can’t get through a department store cosmetic section without seeing  bronzing creams,  bronzing gels or  spray on tan products.

Hello….the fairest of the fair is trying their best to look just like you, a sweet, sexy chocolate, Beautiful Black Woman.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, Beautiful Black Woman you are the most gorgeous of them all.
