You’ve often heard me talk about my mini vacations to Florida.  It’s a great place to get-a-way to and wind down.  This trip I spent time with a friend and she was sharing an experience she had with a Skin Care Therapist.

Now if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my journey of caring for black skin, it’s that most Black Folk feel that they can go out in the sun with no hat or sunscreen.  So did my friend.  Some times you have to hear something from another source before you take it for truth but had you listened the first time you would have saved yourself a lot of trouble.  I know,  we all have those moments.

Because she lives in Florida and works in her garden I’d often ask her two things, Do you wear a sunscreen and Do you wear a hat while working in your garden?  A slight turn of the shoulder when I’d see her or silence over the phone is what I got.

But this trip she shared an experience she had with me.  The salon in which she gets her hair done has a spa.  She received an offer in the mail and decided to get a “professional facial”, her first.  She talked about the “sun damage” to her skin, the blackheads that were embedded and all of the dead skin that was creating a shadow on her face.  She used the word sludge.

That’s not all, when she told me that she had a back facial the same day, I had to touch her and make sure she was the same person that I’d known for 30 years.  She explained to me that she’d remembered me talking about pampering yourself and having someone treat you like a Queen and that’s when she decided to be Queen for the Day.

Here’s the kicker, she said she felt that she looked 10 years younger and that was just her personal opinion after looking in the mirror.  The next day on her way to work, a car pulled up beside her and this young and handsome thing was flirting with her. Here response … Yeah he was cute but she was not about to be his “Sugar Mama”.  I lost it!

A professional facial will make you look ten years younger and your skin will feel like a baby’s bottom.  (keep your hands off your face, please!)  So when will you become Queen for A Day and treat yourself to a Pampering Day!
