Black Skin and Summer TrendsBlack Skin and Summer Trends

Enjoying the warm weather or should I say hot weather of summer? Most of us are! But before you go running off to the beach or even the back yard cookouts, here are a few black skin care tips to take into consideration:

  • Sunscreen – don’t forget your sunscreen.  Yes your skin can burn!  Over exposure to the sun can also cause freckles and sun spots in some of you And the sun can also cause hyperpigmentation/uneven skin tone as well.
  • Keep your make up sheer and almost invisible.  Less is more, especially in the summer time heat.
  • Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize …Did I say Moisturize?
  • A Great summer fashion trend – wide brimmed hats-  wear one!  This is a great way to protect your skin.
  • Eat light … salads:  fruits, vegetables  Light eating habits keep you from getting sluggish.  Healthy eating habits give you healthy skin.
  • Water, Water, Water …  Great for hydrating your body both inside and out.  Drink plenty of it.  Water keeps your system flowing and your skin beautiful.
  • While showing off your beautiful black skin might make a great fashion statement, wearing sheer/light weight fabrics can be more beneficial especially in the high heat of the day.  Covering your skin can often protect it from sunburn.  Oh yes, did I mention that black skin will burn!

Not only do the tips given here apply to your skin but your hair will benefit from them as well.  To much sun will dry out your hair and cause it to become brittle.  A good moisturizer for you hair is crucial in the heat of summer .  Not only will it keep your scalp moisturized, it will soften your hair follicles and condition your ends.

Hats protect your hair and your skin from the heat of the sun.  Your Nana, Grandmother to some of you, understood this.  So take a page from her book and make your fashion statement with a beautiful hat to cover and protect the beauty of your skin and hair.

Time to have some fun!!!
