“Fine Brown Frame”, that was always my mothers favorite saying. A Natural Beauty, she stood 6’1” tall, had beautiful skin but never wanted to have her picture taken.

Interesting, neither do I. I think that comes from a time of programming and hearing that it was not a good thing to be black, let alone to consider yourself beautiful.

Why are you hearing the word natural so much when it comes to caring for black skin?

Did you know that the global market for the natural beauty category is projected to grow an astounding 10% through 2016? “Global” is the operative word. The world population is 75% dark skin folk, just like you.

But if you’re honest with yourself, you’ve always worked with natural products. Your ancestors taught you how to work with the herbs, creating tonics for your hair, potions to attract through scent and creams that will soothe and heal your skin.

You’ve always been a natural beauty!

You walked away from the natural foundation that you were raised up on only to have to return. But more so, under the influence of Big Brand Companies telling you what’s natural and what isn’t.

As you become savvier, you also become more demanding from companies that sell natural skin care products.

In addition to pure, natural ingredients, you’re looking for naturals to meet science formulas as a way to bring about change.

Some luxury natural skin care brands use ingredients that are extracted by boiling plants, herbs and flowers to particular temperatures to attain their high amounts of nutrients and vitamins.

Sounds like you’ve come full circle, after all didn’t your grandmother boil plants, herbs and flowers to a certain temperature to attain their high amounts of nutrients and vitamins?

If It’s Good Enough To Eat …

That’s the typical thought wave, if I can eat it, it’s good enough to use on my skin. Cucumber mask, rosemary hair tonics and sea salt body scrubs all contain ingredients that you can eat.

Yes there are foods that you can eat and use on your skin but these products have a very short shelf life and often times must be used within a day or no more than a week.

Just as with what you take “into” your body the same applies for topical products, everything must be done in moderation.

So … are you a natural beauty in your fine brown frame?
