Are you responsible for the ingredients that you place in your hair?  Since there are a lot of options available when it comes to black hair care products, there is no excuse to use substances that get in the way of its health, smoothness and luster.

When choosing ingredients, although there are guidelines, there are no hard and fast rules. Each head of hair has its own chemical composition to it and may react differently to the ingredients. It is important to try things out and pay attention to how well they work on you.

Look for ingredients that contain water because it is the universal moisturizers. Not only does it work on the outside structure of the hair to clean it, but it also works on the inside. Remember that the most natural products are the best to use on your hair because chemicals and fragrances strip your hair of moisture.

To restore the sheen, look for jojoba or coconut oil as an ingredient. They have excellent emollients and the coconut oil has the ability to enter the cortex instead of merely coating the external structure of your hair. Instead of a superficial shine, the coconut oil nourishes from within.

Jojoba oil is prized as a moisturizer because it is similar to the natural oils found in your scalp. Although it cannot penetrate your hair like coconut oil, it is a good ingredient to mix with conditioners and hair products.

Another common ingredient for black hair products is shea butter. However, not all brands are built the same way. Shea butter should be among one of the first five ingredients listed on the product. Otherwise, the amount of the butter is not sufficient enough to make a significant contribution to the moisturizing of your hair. As an alternative, pure shea butter can be used directly on dry hair.

Another option for oil that is good for your hair is olive oil. Olive oil is useful in hot oil treatments and rinse out conditioners. Since it is a heavy kind of oil, there is no need to use it in large amounts. Also, make sure to rinse your hair well so it is not weighed down.

Finally, if you find that a shampoo has all the right ingredients and it also has sodium laureth sulfate, don’t toss it, as long as it doesn’t sit at the helm, because this ingredient is able to clean your hair without drying it out. However, do not be confused with a similar sounding ingredient – sodium lauryl sulfate- it is the kind of ingredient that can strip your hair of its moisture.

Choose wisely, test often and once you find what works for you, you’ll begin to see the results that you’re looking for in a good black hair care product.
