Spring is the time for new beginning, for planting seeds, purification and clearing out the old, following the teachings of nature by which nature takes care of for itself.
Using essential oils on your skin allows the medicinal properties of the natural oils to penetrate through your skin and into the bloodstream.
In addition, using essential oils through aromatherapy stimulates emotional and chemical responses in the brain. To have and keep beautiful African American skin, here are the best essential oils for the season:
Rose Essential Oil
Since African American skin is prone to dryness, using rose essential oil is a must if you want to keep it smooth and supple during spring and when combined with honey, your skin gets an extra treat. Apart from its therapeutic properties, rose essential oil is known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties which can help refine skin complexion, texture and tone. In addition, inhaling rose essential oil has been known to inhibit water loss and also lowers the concentration of stress hormones in the body.
Rose Essential Oil and Honey Facial Mask:
Ingredients
5 drops of Rose Essential Oil
2 tablespoons of honey
2 tablespoons of sweet almond oil
1 drop vitamin E oil
Method
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and massage onto clean face and neck using your fingertips. For best results, leave the mask on for at least 15 minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Gently pat dry your smooth and soft skin.
Tea Tree Essential Oil
Tea Tree essential oil is one of the best known oils for acne prone skin. The oil contains magnificent antibacterial properties which can help ward off acne causing bacteria. The unique property of this natural oil regulates oil production which plays an imperative role in decreasing the severity of breakouts. The essential oil is used all over the world as an antiseptic and to treat fungal and bacterial wounds. The oil best works with ingredients, such as honey, coconut oil and cultured milk products.
Tea Tree essential oils can effectively be used in a range of homemade skin care products, ranging from body scrubs to face wash.
Acne Masks
Ingredients
4 to 8 drops of tea tree oil
1 teaspoon jojoba oil
Method
Mix all the ingredients in a medium sized bowl and dab the mixture onto the problem area where you are experiencing breakout. The jojoba oil acts as a carrier oil because by simply using tea tree oil alone can be damaging if applied directly to the skin.
Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
This also is known for its enhanced properties to reduce fine lines and improve skin elasticity. It also stimulates the regeneration of new skin cells so your skin feels lively and smooth this spring season.
Hydrating Ylang Ylang Face Mask
Ingredients
1 tablespoon raw honey
1 tablespoon Aloe Vera gel
2 to 3 drops Ylang Ylang essential oil
Method
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and massage onto clean face and neck using your fingertips. For best results, leave the mask on for at least 15 minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Gently pat dry your smooth and soft skin.
I’ll admit, Rose and Ylang Ylang essential oils can cost you a bit more than Tea Tree, however, the benefits you’ll get from there use can be well worth the cost. These same essential oils can be used in hair care and aromatherapy. Aren’t you worth it?!
That’s it for this week. As always …
