Did you know that at a microscopic level, African American skin is less sensitive to sun damage?  That’s why women of color look younger than lighter skinned women.

What most women of color don’t realize is that the amount of melanin in darker skin tones makes your skin more prone to unique skin problems!  Black skin reacts much differently to injuries than other skin types.

Therefore, ethnic skin care is still crucial in order to maintain healthy and radiant skin.

So in order to keep your skin looking youthful and in tip top shape here are a few easy and practical ways to get started, today!

Beautiful skin often starts within and expands outward.  That means a healthy diet is extremely important.  A great way to keep that youthful glow and reduce breakouts is to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and ditch the caffeinated beverages.

You got to add movement to your daily routine.  Taking a brisk walk once a day will get your blood flowing and keep your skin looking radiant and toned.

It can’t be said enough that a good night’s sleep is crucial to not only the health of your skin but your wellbeing.  Sleep deprivation actually robs your skin of its natural essence.

Don’t go to bed with your makeup on!  A good skin care regimen is important for women of color, and sleeping in your makeup will cause serious breakouts.

When you don’t properly exfoliate your skin, it has a tendency to appear ashy.  That’s because of the dead skin cells lying on top of it.  Using a natural black skin care product is always recommended.

For an even and clean complexion, cleanse your face no more than two times a day.  The best times are morning and night, right before you go to bed.

Don’t ever over do it.  Don’t exfoliate too hard or too often.  Don’t use cleansers that will strip your skin of its natural oils.  Don’t use extremely hot water on your face as it will dry it out.

As Women of Color, remember to be gentle with your skin – after all, you’re putting your best face forward.
