Some of you are beginning to experience the colder temperatures as we move into the winter months.   Your first thought is probably to cover up and keep warm.

In covering up, not that you mean to, but you’ll cover up in warm clothes and your body will not see the light of day until springtime.  This is not the greatest idea but your main thought will be to keep warm.

Your beautiful black skin will need great care throughout the winter months.  Without it your skin will become dull, gray and ashy.  You’ll think it’s snowing as you begin to undress.  Those are dead skin cells that need to be removed from your body.

Imagine this … it’s Saturday or any day of the week you choose (morning or night) and you’ve decided to ‘Love Your Body’ and treat yourself to a ‘pamper me’ event.  The main focus of this treatment will be to exfoliate your entire body.

What does it mean to exfoliate your body?

Exfoliating your body means removing the dead skin cells that build up over time.  Cleansing your body on a daily basis will allow you to remove some of them but a thorough removal of dead skin cells is a process.

How might this be done without taking all the skin off your body?  A mild exfoliating product is what you would choose.  What is a mild exfoliating product?  Try finding one that has ingredients that will moisturize your skin as you’re exfoliating it.

What might those ingredients be?  A Shea butter based product that will moisturize and a sea salt, wax bead or sugar added to the base that will exfoliate but gently.  I like to think of it as a body butter scrub.

When you work with shells to exfoliate your body, the risk in scratching and scaring your skin will be greater.  Then you’ve got discoloration to deal with.

What are the benefits of exfoliating your skin?

  • You’ll immediately see a beautiful glow to your skin, not to mention the soft to the touch feel that follows.
  • Exfoliating your skin enables your skin to renew itself quicker.  Dead skin cells on your body are equivalent to smothering your skin.  It’s not breathing or getting proper air to your pores.
  • When you remove dead skin cells it will help in evening out your skin tone.  Dead skin cells stack up on top of each other with no rhyme or reason causing your skin to have discolorations in different areas.
  • Exfoliating your body will allow your skin to breathe, appear visibly brighter and diminish fine lines and wrinkles.

Exfoliating your body’s skin during the colder temps will make the transition into springtime a whole lot easier.  Maintenance is the key and as you strip away the layers of clothing your skin will make an entrance like a super star.
