Aromatherapy, Is It For You!

Are you looking for ways to create a more well-rounded and productive life for yourself, your family, and even your boss or co-workers?  It’s no secret that stress at home and in your work environment can wreak havoc on your beautiful black skin and hair.

Did you know that there is something inexpensive and so simple to incorporate into your life that it could possibly make it better?

You might be skeptical at first, but then, you will find yourself saying, “Why haven’t I thought of this before?”

What is this “magic”?

It’s aromatherapy! Huh? Just like the name implies, it means to utilize fragrant aromas to provide therapy – naturally- to your everyday life.

What Is Aromatherapy and How Is It Used?

The definition of aromatherapy, according to the website www.medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com is the following: “Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of plant-derived, aromatic essential oils to promote physical and psychological well-being. It is sometimes used in combination with massage and other therapeutic techniques as part of a holistic treatment approach.”

Aromatherapy is a large part of massage therapy because it instills a positive, relaxed feeling for the participants. There are essential oils used such as lavender to relive pain in the joints, making an obviously perfect union when using them on a sore body during a massage.

Many people associate essential oils and aromatherapy with massage and more Far Eastern practices such as yoga, but I want you to try and think about ways you can use aromatherapy daily.

Incorporating the use of essential oils into your black skin care regimen or products, not only adds benefits to the condition of your skin but it can also add to your well being.

Ever Thought About Bringing Aromatherapy Into Your Work Environment?

Have you thought about what aromatherapy can do for your work environment?  Aromatherapy can bring so many healthful benefits into your workplace. I’m not talking about bringing vanilla-scented candles to the office and lowering the lights, either!

Aromatherapy can calm stressed nerves, it can make you more productive, and it can make your co-workers happier during the day.

Sounds great, so where do you begin? I can provide some easy ways for you to bring aromatherapy into your office for yourself and for your co-workers.

  • First, start with a simple cream. Have you ever noticed that in an office, if a woman pulls out a nicely scented hand cream, others seem to gravitate to that person and the hand cream gets passed from person to person to use?  The next time everyone is stressed in the office, have an all-natural hand cream infused with the scent of Rose or Lavender or a combination of oils for calming, and use it on your hands. Most likely, you’ll not even have to offer it to others, but in case they are over-stressed, go ahead and offer some. The lavender scent, along with the gentle rubbing of it on hands, soothes.

  • In the early part of the day, try keeping an aromatherapy diffuser on your desk. They come in many shapes and forms, so pick one that suits you, but choose a scent that will make people feel happy, energetic and positive. Citrus-y scents like lemon and orange, pineapple, and even coconut scents can give a person a refreshed feeling.

  • When that mid-day slump hits, try spraying a natural perfume made with essential oils that you like, or a natural air freshener.  Let co-workers know before you spray that yours is made with essential oils and that it won’t hurt their respiratory systems or pollute the indoor air. A great scent to try is spearmint or peppermint to put a little “pep” (pun intended) in everyone’s step for such mid-day slumps.  Spearmint and peppermint are invigorating and will “pep” everyone up for those last few hours of the work day.

These are very simple ways to incorporate aromatherapy into your work environment, and you can easily get the same benefits at home.

Don’t be surprised when everyone around you starts to be a little happier – all thanks to you and your good “scents”!
