Do African American Women Really Love Skin Care?

African American women love skin care. A few years ago, a study was done by Essence Magazine and Vision Critical Group. They learned that African American Women spend nearly twice as much on skin care annually than the mass market.

At the time, according to Mikki Taylor, then Beauty and Cover Director for Essence, “Essence’s Smart Beauty research confirms that African American Women are confident and aspirational, embracing and celebrating their unique beauty to the fullest.” She also stated that, “As trendsetters, African American Women enjoy the beauty experience and are loyal customers, who trust prestige brands to deliver the quality they expect.”

African American Women and The Beauty Industry

Did you know there was a time when what you wanted in beauty wasn’t important? Companies, mostly those not owned by you and your people, gave you anything to get your money in their pockets.

Like most encounters, time changes things. Over the years, you’ve encouraged companies to respect your beauty and opinions of it.
Then there are those of you that don’t wait for someone else to provide your beauty product for you. You start your own companies. That’s happening more and more each day.

When you like something, you like it. Which means, you will part with your hard earned money for the product and service you desire. However, your skin care products must address your challenges … uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, acne, oily skin, puffiness and dark circles, to name a few.

Here’s What Companies Had to Learn About You as African American Women.

• African American Women spend 80% more on cosmetics annually and nearly twice as much on skin care product than other markets.
• You as African American Women are Self Confident and describe yourself as intelligent, independent, attractive, ambitious, sexy and fabulous more than other markets.
• When it comes to what you, the African American Woman purchases – It must reflect your personal style, be a brand that you trust, offer high quality ingredients and be suited to your personal needs.

You spend 80% more on cosmetics and twice as much on skin care. So it’s only right to feel that any skin care line or beauty product must be suited for your personal needs. Take your time when shopping for solutions.  You’ll find that there are products available help you through your challenges.

The more natural the ingredients, the better your results will be.  It’s a known fact that chemical based products are not always good for your melanated skin.

It’s a known fact that you love skin care.  More importantly, you love skin care that works.

That’s it for this week.  As always …
