Every year as the weather gets warmer, you begin to worry about those body parts that are or will be exposed.  I know, because we all want to put our best skin forward.

Let’s take a look at natural ways that you can beautify your skin without breaking the bank.

  • Ashy Elbows – for ashy elbows salt and sugar can do more for you than have a place at the dinning room table or topping a margarita glass.  You can slice a lime in half and sprinkle the inside with salt(use sugar if you suffer from high blood pressure).  Then bend your arm and hold the lime against your elbow and twist, as though you were juicing the lime.  Do this for a minute or so before rinsing.  The citric acid in the lime helps to dissolve layers of hard dry skin while the rotating action will help the salt in buffing away dead skin cells from your funny bone.
  • Cellulite- Do you have craters in your thighs? Coffee can be used for more than your morning cup of Java.  Mix 1/2 cup of brewed coffee grounds, 1/4 cup of brown sugar and 1/4 cup of olive oil.  Before you hit the beach, gently massage the mixture into your dimpled thighs for approximately three minutes, then rinse.  The caffeine in the coffee grounds draws excess water from your skin, helping it to appear temporarily tighter.  The sugar in the mixture helps increase your blood flow and exfoliates dead skin cells, while the olive oil hydrates and plumps your skin showing fewer lumps.
  • Crepey Decollete -Forget about crows feet, wrinkles on your decollete (your upper chest area) can really ruin the look of your plunging neckline on that gorgeous dress.  Try using a mixture of 1 egg white, 1 tablespoon of honey, 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of yogurt.  Blend together and smooth onto your chest.  The egg white temporarily tightens your skin, the honey and olive oil act as hydrating humectants to lock in moisture and the yogurt’s lactic acid helps brighten your skins discoloration.  Not bad for a visit to the Fridge.
  • Nicks and burns – We’ve all felt the sting and nick of a freshly shaved leg or armpit.  Try using coconut oil in lieu of alcohol infused shaving creams.  Coconut oil’s unique fatty acids soothe inflammation, maintain hydration and act as an antibacterial agent to prevent infection.  Waxing is another alternative to removing hair from your legs and armpits.

These are just four of a host of beauty worries that present themselves when taking care of African American Skin.  Keep in mind that you can use products that are right in your pantry AND they’re made from natural ingredients.
