Whether you’re 20, 30, 40 or 50, you’re closing in on 60.  For those of you who’ve tipped the scale,  Here’s to You!  Remember when Essence magazine used to dedicate their January issue to Black Women of all ages? And you’d get to the 50+ and go Wow, I want to look like them when I grow up!

There’s a lot of talk goin on about “aging”.  It’s no secret that I like to use the word “maturing”.  As African American Women, it’s a known fact that we age/mature much better than most and as long as we live on this planet as humans, the maturing process will take place.

While the Queen celebrated her Diamond Jubilee, 60 years on the throne, some of you were celebrating 60 years on the planet.  But I was hearing, Sassy, Sexy and Sixty!

Some of my mature women are “a bad bad Missus in those skin tight britches”, while others of you show a bit more of your fine brown frames in short skirts or butter leather pants.  Either way you’re not quite finished yet.  Tina Turner is a great example.

So why is there all this talk about “Aging”?  It’s a natural process!  Just because you add another second, moment or hour to your life each day doesn’t make it any less valuable.

Well … I do forget why I walk from one room to another from time to time but that has nothing to do with maturing.  I know people much younger than me who do the same thing.

What maturing does mean is that the approach we take in caring for our beautiful black skin changes.  What we choose to do with our hair changes.

Caring for the Maturing Skin You’re In

Cleansing, toning and moisturizing are the basics to your maturing black skin care regimen.  Exfoliation products and face firming serums will find a place on your bathroom vanity also.

You will use a more gentle approach in caring for the skin you’re in.  As your skin matures, the collagen and elastin takes on different forms.  Some of you will experience some sagging while others of you will experience more wrinkles.

Exfoliating your skin will remove the dead skin cells.  This will allow your skin to show off its youthful glow. Dead skin cells are what can often give the appearance of ashy, dull and gray looking skin.

Typically your skin rejuvenates every 28 days but as you mature it can take as long as forty days for new cells to make their way to the surface.  When you exfoliate, your skin looks as though it’s rejuvenated in 28 days.

This exfoliating process is great for your entire body, especially your hands and feet.  You use these body parts more than any other on a daily basis.

Black Hair Care, Going Natural!

It’s almost as though an announcement went out.  Go Natural, with black hair care!  This is what I’m seeing in mature women.  No weaves, no perms or relaxers, not even a press and curl. It’s pretty much wash, moisturize and go.

There’s a certain freedom that comes with maturing.  You stop caring what others think of you and how you look.

You don’t let yourself go, but you do choose to live your life like it’s Golden.  You live it, Your Way!
