Did you know that there are natural ingredients available that can help in treating and reversing hyperpigmentation.

In past years hydroquinone and mercury chloride have been used to treat hyperpigmentation but not without problems.  These ingredients have been linked to health issues, even if used in small percentages.

However, today natural ingredients are available that can help with hyperpigmentation.

Hyperpigmentation can occur from too much sun exposure, acne scars, popping pimples as well as hormonal changes.  Medications and certain prescriptions will also cause hyperpigmentation in your skin.

One thing you must never loose site of is your melanin.  Your skin has a component like no other and that’s your melanin.

You can remove dark spots and at best lighten them up, but understand that any treatment you use will have a different time line for removal of dark spots and evening out your skin than for other racial groups.

Melanin is what gives your beautiful black skin and hair its “natural” color.

The darker your skin, the greater the amount of melanin and the lighter your skin the less amount of melanin you have.

Here are a few natural ingredients that are being used in the market to treat dark spots and uneven skin tone.

  • Willow bark extract – this ingredient provides natural beta hydroxy acid without skin irritation for most people.  Your melanin can sometimes make your skin sensitive to products, even those that are natural.  So test any new product on a small portion of your skin in order to determine any allergies.
  • Gotu Lola extract – is known for its anti-inflammatory properties.  It may promote wound healing in your skin by stimulating collagen.  It can promote healthy skin and helps reduce skin irritation.  Irritations in your skin can cause dark spots and uneven skin tones.
  • Licorice extracts – provide skin brightening benefits and has strong anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Bellis daisy – is known to reduce melanin activity.  When you hear or read of a product reducing melanin activity it means that it is stopping the production of melanin.  In uneven skin tones and dark spots, this is exactly what you want to happen.

When caring for black skin, you’ll want a skin therapist that understands your skin, as well as your genetic composition.

Nutrition plays an extremely important role in the health and beauty of your skin and hair.

Nutrition and great skin care will help you get a flawless complexion.  Remember when your mother use to always say, eat your veggies?  She was right!
