A head-to-toe glow for your beautiful black skin. Does that sound like music to your ears?!
It’s getting hotter by the day and the last thing you want to see as you take off the layers, is dull, gray, ashy looking skin. You’ve pushed the time line to the limit and now it’s time to get your scrubs/exfoliants out and go to work.
Therein lies the key: Exfoliation. The quiet thing about exfoliating your skin, especially on your body, is that you can use it as a time to pamper yourself.
Of course the most relaxing way to get a head-to-toe glow is to have someone do it for you. Ahhhhh, a spa treatment would feel so good right about now. Does the thought of having someone else softly brush and scrub your body sound good to you?
Just in case it doesn’t fit into your schedule this weekend, you can do it yourself and create your own in-home spa.
As quiet as it’s kept, you don’t always need to have a body polish or scrub to make this happen. Here are a few tools to always have at your disposal.
A Body Brush – This is a hand held brush that used for what’s known as dry brushing your skin. Dry brushing exfoliates your skin removing the build up of dead skin cells from the winter months. It can also help detoxify your body by increasing the circulation of your blood and promoting the drainage and flow of your lymphatic system.
It’s been known to also stimulate your nervous system. For some, it can make you feel invigorated afterwards.
A Hand Mitt or Glove – Using a hand mitt or exfoliating glove is often considered another form of dry brushing. As with using a body brush, hand mitts or gloves help your skin look more radiant and feel smoother. Both methods help remove dead skin cells from your body.
Jojoba Wax Beads – When it comes to your exfoliating your face Jojoba wax beads are a more gentle way of removing the dead skin cells that have caused your skin to look dull, gray and ashy.
When used in a face cream or moisturizer, they can be the perfect way to bring your glow back to your face. The key with any exfoliating products used on your skin, especially your face, is not to apply pressure as if you’re using a scrub pad for your pots and pans.
A Dry Washcloth – You’ve all got a wash cloth in your linen closet or drawer. White is the preferred color. Why? Because any other color has dye in it and you don’t want that going into your skin.
By folding your cloth into fourths and using two fingers to create a point, you can softly begin to remove dead skin cells from your face and neck. In a circular motion gently rub your skin from your hairline to your neck. You can do this 2-3 times a week.
Moisturize – After you shower or bathe, your skin is ready to receive a soothing oil or cream that’s sure to soften and enhance your new found glow. Do not use body moisturizers on your face. They are too thick and rich. This could cause breakouts, especially from the oil formulation in body products.
Give these suggestions a try and let me know how they work for you. That’s it for this week. As always …
