There’s nothing like knowing you’re half way through the Winter cold and Spring is just around the corner. Don’t wait until March to get your body ready for the big peel off.
Clothes that is. As you begin to remove layers of clothing, it’s also a great time to start removing dead skin cell build up from the winter months of not really caring for your skin.
Yes we have a tendency of not giving a hoot about full body exfoliation during the winter months. After all, who really sees your body? Uh, you do! That being said, lets get a few body scrub recipes in your mist, so that you can enjoy the beauty of scent and exfoliation as you care for your beautiful black skin.
Body Butter Scrub
There’s nothing like Shea butter, coco butter and mango butter that’s blended with avocado, meadowfoam, jojoba and coconut oil. This is a gentle and effective way to remove dead skin cell buildup as you move through the mid-winter season. Shea, cocoa and mango butters naturally moisturize your skin.
When enhanced with turbinado sugar and sea salt, they provide a wonderful way to exfoliate your skin without being overly invasive and aggressive. You won’t need a moisturizer when you finish this scrub. It will leave your skin feeling soft and smooth as a baby’s bottom.
Himalayan Salt Scrub
I’m sharing a recipe that was created by Adrienne Leonard: It’s a Lavender Mint Body Scrub. She substituted the common Epsom salts with Himalayan salt.
Here are some of the benefits known to occur when using Himalayan salt:
Did you know that it’s said that pink salts have the ability to restore electrolyte balance, making it great for your skin?
Here’s the recipe:
2 cups Himalayan salt
1 tablespoon of Lavender flowers
1/2 – 1 tablespoon of Apricot oil
3 tablespoons of Vitamin C powder
3 sprigs of spearmint: dried/fresh
Used candle tin or glass jar
Vitamin C helps rebuild skin collagen. It’s also a great antioxidant
Lavender Essential Oil is great for improving blood circulation throughout your body. Not to mention how soft it makes your skin feel.
Apricot Oil helps balance out your skin. Salt scrubs detoxify your skin and body, so the apricot oil helps in adding moisture.
You’ll mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. You can store the scrub in containers for about two months.
Coffee Body Scrub
You know that great smelling aroma of coffee that you experience every morning, even if you don’t drink coffee? The one that greets you as you walk into the deli or your favorite coffee shop? Those coffee grinds are known to make great body scrubs. Some of you swear by it for temporary relief of cellulite.
Coffee is rich in antioxidants, making it an awesome anti-inflammatory ingredient. It contains caffeine, which draws out excess moisture from your skin, causing it to look and feel smoother and firmer. In scrubs, coffee acts as a mild exfoliant, removing dead skin cells and providing you with fresh, soft skin.
1 cup coffee grounds (Fresh dry-never used)
6 tablespoons coconut oil (some of you might like olive oil instead)
3 tablespoons turbinado sugar
Blend together and store in a jar. Massage in a circular motion to get best results. Gentle, gentle, gentle.
Hope you enjoyed the article. Share it with your friends so that they can get their skin ready for the warm weather too.
