Facials … Do you remember your first facial? Years ago, I had the honor of giving a woman her very first facial. She was 45 years old. She’d been downsized at her job and a friend gave her the gift of a facial.
It was a real experience for her. As she got up on the table, she had no idea of what to expect. She said, “the only thing I know about facials is that I always see women in a mask“. I told her that she too would have the experience of a mask. She was very excited.
We started her session with the basic two step cleanse. In other words, I cleaned her face twice to remove all dirt and debris from her skin. Then it was time to analyze her skin under the magnifying lamp and see what her challenges were.
Once the analysis was complete, I followed up by exfoliating her skin. Exfoliating your skin helps remove dead skin cells. This within itself can bring light to your face. After all you’ve just remove a layer or two of dead skin cell build up that’s cause you to look dull and ashy.
As I removed the exfoliant from her face with a hot towel, there came an ahhhh sound from her mouth, followed by an, “oh that feels great”. You see, the warmth of a hot towel to your face is very relaxing, calming and soothing to the soul.
After I exfoliated her face, I followed up with a massage to her face, neck and shoulders. Not just any massage but a massage done with skin loving oils. A good facial massage can help you relax as well as give your skin a radiant glow. Facial massages help circulate the blood in your face and bring life into your facial tissues and muscles.
Looking to add a bit of firmness to your skin? A good facial masque can help you get healthy and supple skin in a matter of minutes. Depending on the purpose of the masque, your skin will benefit from its use. Oily skin will benefit from the use of clay masque. The help with removing excess oils from your face. Honey masque help hydrate your skin from the outer surface.
While the mask was on her face I did a reflexology treatment (massage to her feet). This put her to sleep. Most of you don’t think about your feet unless you’re about to go outside and enjoy the warm temps of Spring and Summer.
A regular foot rub can put you to sleep. However, when it’s done with technique and precision to hit every organ in your body, via your feet, it takes a foot rub to another level.
Reflexology is an ancient healing practice that’s based on the principle that there are flex points in your feet that correspond to the different organs and glands in your body. Your feet carry your body weight around everyday, all day. So when you have an opportunity to get a treatment that will improve your blood circulation, help with relaxation, help relieve body pain, alleviate swelling and make your feet healthier, take it.
My client found joy in her treatment and when she checked her phone messages, she found that she’d been hired for a position in a hospital.
It was her first facial, but definitely not her last.
That’s it for this week. As always …
