This has been a week of phone calls about acne. We all know and understand that acne is a skin disorder that effects men and women young and old of all ethnicity. But research has shown that larger numbers of women that are 25 or older have acne and it remains constant until about 44.
Similar numbers are effecting men as well and we’re talking about people of color here. In particular, African Americans that find themselves challenged with acne long after puberty. For some of you, into your 50s and early 60s acne is still challenging your skin.
When we look at the psychological impact of acne, it lowers your self esteem, it’s embarrassing and your self image is challenged. That doesn’t happen only in your adolescence. Those same emotional challenges or conditions effect you as an adult because you’re still dealing with your face and that’s the first thing that people see when they meet you .
The last thing you want is a jacked up face when you’re out in public. So how do you begin to take a look at the challenge of acne?
With acne, one of the things that is overlooked is that it can also be the result of poor eating habits. The food you consume (chips, fried foods, soda, sugar) internally is effecting your skin and when your body wants to regurgitate a challenge that it’s experiencing within, the first place it’s going to start being seen is through your skin.
9 out of 10 times your face is going to be what shows you what’s going on first. So when you’re looking for a treatment that’s going to help you deal with acne, you’re going to look for treatments that will prevent cell growth (minimize those white puss bumps that come up on your skin).
You’re also going to be looking for a treatment that will normalize and enhance the way you exfoliate your skin. Mild exfoliants such as jojoba wax beads in a cream base are a great way to remove dead skin cell buildup that forms on your skin.
You’re going to be looking for treatments that kill bacteria on your skin, reduce the exaggerated inflammation and treatments that help you control the excessive amount of oil that’s produced on your skin.
Facial Cleansers that have Green Tea as one of or the main ingredient is great for skin that suffers from acne. Green tea helps reduce rashes and scars as well as fights against skin inflammation.
Green tea is known as an anti-bacterial and helps kill microorganisms so as not to see or experience any further skin damage.
Green Clay is also a good product to use as a mask to treat acne. It pulls unnecessary oils from your skin that’s been known to be breeding beds for germs and bacteria on your skin.
Knowing that foods can trigger acne flair ups is going to having you looking for a nutritional approach to caring for your acne challenged skin. Beauty from the inside out will need to become your new motto..
That’s it for this week, As Always …
